Not happy with timber island bench, what can I do??
Comments (46)yep, stunning. I been drawing something similar for a while and it's awesome to see your ab fab results after your OP. I got interested in some ikea solid timber benchtops, not nearly as nice as yours, and thought I'd combo them with black cabinets, white stone and white walls (just a "what if" design). so I totally love your kitchen. it's great how well the tiles look now compared to when you first posted, they really excite me! and the lightshades against the black wall. and what's that dining area I see? that smoked glass table top with timber trestles and black chairs and that black and white rug? where you get those?! I want to see more! congratulations, it's hard not to gush! big ups to Mldesign too....See MoreHow do I update a 1970s Beachside Aframe??
Comments (9)love the timber and the tiled living area floors, Before planning any changes make sure the roof, gutters, downpipes, cladding, electrical, plumbing, stove, hot water system etc etc is in good repair and excellent working order then, in the kitchen, add white wall cabinets with concealed rangehood across the whole wall above the stove, build in space for a microwave, replace the benchtops in textured offwhite Laminate without the angled corners but replace the thick wood edge, build an alcove for the fridge, install new cabinets or new doors and handles with plain white doors and brushed steel D handles, upgrade inside of pantry with new white shelves and drawers.. Update the bathroom with new white tiles, new toilet, wall hung vanity and full width, in wall mirror doored medicine cabinet, new taps and consider changing from a cubicle shower to a walk in without the step over. Paint the deck railing in a dark colour to prevent distracting from the view. Replace the old sliding door and thick chair rail with black? stacking doors with outer panels of louvres to improve ventilation, Replace the railing on the upstairs bedroom? to match the newly painted railing on the deck. Relay and extend paving to eliminate bumps and create a more generous outdoor area. Replace heavy wood furniture and the cane furniture with lightweight steel frames in simple mid century shapes and textured fabrics in light and/or bright colours .....or, do nothing and just enjoy your gorgeous home and the beautiful view...See MoreWhat can I do with 80's wooden bar area?
Comments (33)Hi Anne, Your home is beautiful with so much potential. There have been some clever ideas presented but I think its important to have an overall plan that you're working towards. This way you avoid needing to re-do certain areas. With the overall plan you would decide which materials you like and what needs to change and then you can stick to that plan as you roll out the changes. For instance, I think the brick on fireplace wall is a lovely feature of the home but the brick in the kitchen area is competing with it. With the timber panelling, it was certainly a feature of the home originally but these days we tend to paint out the panelling to make spaces feel lighter and more open. We often use Dulux China White when working with robust materials like brick and timber as it has a warm stone like tone. In one of the pictures, I can see that there is a full feature brick wall in another room which should creates a lovely flow and consistency. This is a home in Fairhaven Victoria that looked just like yours (but without the brick) and was painted in the China White. Cheers, Vikki. Your bathroom will also looks great with a touch of paint and a new vanity....See MoreHow do i update my Exterior?
Comments (5)Demolish ? Ooops , a bit mean sorry . It actually looks like it has good bones , and some potential . Waterblast would be a first step . Then work out a budget . The garage actually looks really nice , but the house is all over the place , and dated . Paint the walls , including the fake blocks , the same light brown of the garage . Replace the windows with charcoal . Or white . Even 'metallic' brown . Possibly not purpley mauve again though . Paint gutters and downpipes in charcoal . A stainless rail on the ramp . or a cement wall , or frameless glass . Redo the ramp , or go back to steps . Apart from that , the rest is okay ....See MoreRebecca
