Do copper or gold-toned lights 'muddy' other colours in a room?

Hi Houzzers,

For people who have copper, brass or gold-toned lights at home, have you found the light they emit is an obvious shade of orange or yellow? I adore these types of lights but don't want the emitted colour to 'muddy' other tones in the room.

Hi Julia,

Are you asking about the colour of the fitting or the of the light source (globe) itself?

If the internal of the lamp is brass coloured it will reflect that shade, you could change the internal colour using special white paint.

I think the golds in your frames and other wall hanging would go very nicely with the red JudyG posted. You might start with just a couple of walls as it's going to be quite dark. I painted part of my bedroom a similar color--it was the color of canned chili, and my husband thought it was too dark so I changed it. I think your furniture would look wonderful with that. And with paint color, I told my husband that I'm not done with the bedroom until I say 'I LOVE IT!' You should do the same--you want to love looking at your living room.

Thanks all. I love Cool, Calm, Collected - it's only a suburb away from where I live... their prices are normally $$$, but they have beautiful stuff. I actually already have that West Elm light fitting in my stair case! (How embarrassing) - I love it (and they actually have it in brass in the USA but not here). Whoever suggested light in the box, thanks, I don't think I've seen that site before. After much consideration of your photo, I really think you have it right! The gold mirror matches the gold towel rail ! All your other elements, i.e. the plant and stand, match perfectly with and enhance the room's overall look. I think the suggestion of painting the wall behind the mirror, is an excellent one, in a shade of green which would tie in with the tiles on the floor and the plant. You have the ceiling height to handle it. I wouldn't be shy with a dark emerald green to complement the tiles, I think the gold would then really shine and blend with the gold hand rail. Photocopy the pic of the room and using a texta, colour in the wall and see what you think before committing. Be brave. Congrats on a beautiful room! okie here's a thought.. your marble look will match your stainless..it doesn't mean your cupboards have to.. below is an example to illustrate my point .. I have a gold kitchen with stainless steel appliances ..it never occurred to me that I have to match my stainless steel in when you think of it that way it gives you more options more colours to choose from timber is another good one to break up your laminate ..

You can buy copper pendants with white on the inside. They do cast a lovely warm light as opposed to a cooler tone, but if you use a cool Kelvin light bulb, you will be able to change the colour cast.

We are lucky enough to be able to use of a large family trust beach house, where three families, got to decorate their bedroom zones in a particular style. One featured copper lights in their styling. The area is beautiful but sadly I feel the lights are a complete miss. At night the glow from them is unpleasant and difficult to read by. I would not be using them in my house.
