Thermafoil doors/drawers - what to do

House is 22 year old. Doing various upgrades but new kitchen cabinets are expensive and not in the budget. Builder used a local company to build cabinets - they are some wood areas, particle board and have thermafoil drawer fronts and cabinet doors. I have some areas foil is coming lose on cabinets and drawers and 2 drawers that have cracked peeling areas. Home Depot refacing is $12k+. Local cabinet store estimate for new cabinets/installation is $25k +. I am installing new floors, bathroom plumbing upgrades, new roof and HVAC system so with those items in the budget and pretty much needed upgrades, the cabinet expense isn't in the picture. If I had 'normal' cabinets paint would be so easy but that's not the case. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.
