Hi all, needing to decide on an exterior cladding product- coastal cottage Bal 12.5 required

weathertex or scyon linea or similar

is there much cost difference in product?

Has anyone done the research?

would very much appreciate the advice,

Hi Julia, both brands will have products that comply with the non-combustible performance required for BAL 12.5.

Feedback we have from builders seems to suggest that the Scyon branded product range is more expensive, but take that with a grain of salt.

No matter what you choose there will always be something cheaper it seems, but is it as good, does it have the same after market support, etc,?

Both Weathertex and Scyon are established quality brands in the Australian market, so appearance and price are probably the main differentiation. Choose the look you like best from both brands and ask for quotes to supply and install both for comparison. If both look good to you, then lowest price wins the day.

Either way you will need to paint, we’re just in the process of installing Colorbond DOMINION cladding and it looks gorgeous and no painting required.

@LesleyH I need to clad a small portion of the front of my house that is covered. Is Nuline a cost effective for a small portion given it's not exposed to sun and rain, is there something else that I could get away with? I thought of getting actual timber because maybe maintenance won't be such an issue. But I don't know how that compares cost-wise. Basically want the look of your's and original poster's photos. The windows on right will stay the same size, just fitted with more traditional style windows. And the windows on the left will be replaced with french doors. So there's not a lot to clad. Wonder if, having been through the decision process and actual install, you have any pointers?

If the roof tiles are in good condition and you don't get leaks anywhere, then no need to replace something that is working well. If you are wanting to change the colour, the roof can be sprayed. A light colour would not be as hot as the current black. I think it would also lend itself to the coastal, Hampton's look you want to create. Your entry is lovely and welcoming. In saying you want to clad the exterior, do you mean with weatherboards like a Hampton's style? Vinyl or timber boards?

i don't believe that any of the cladding products you mentioned will age as you wish and once you add a stain the fading will be slowed but you should consult the manufacturers for their specific advice but my suggestion would be to consider using Colorbond steel on both walls and roof for a more economical product until you can afford to replace the cladding with a natural timber

Aside from soundproofing and double glazing , I reckon you are focussing on the wrong thing . The brick isn't great , but its not too bad either IMO . The browny red gutter looks dated , the white poles a lack of imagination , the fences unloved , the top rail on the balcony looks unpainted ( and the wires out of style ) and about the only thing worse than the white garage door would be to try and colour match it to the bricks , and make a big blank nothing . Charcoal stain the fence and probably the balcony rail , do the garage door and gutter in mid blue or apricot , or bright red or Emerald Green if you want to be noticed , and you are just about done . The white supports and white upstairs windows will now look different enough to stand out but blend in all at the same time , the bricks will be the 'base' you are working from , whilst the rest will be the items that add to that base . Future plans could be smoked glass panels for the veranda , or a new railing altogether , or even a new balcony -- up to you . Add a plant or 16 , make the entrance clearer ( is it out the left hand side gate , or up the right side ? ) , and it will take on a whole new look for $2-4000

You should check out DecoClad - DecoClad is completely non-combustible ( solid aluminium) and complies with BAL FZ Flame Zone specifications when installed with a fire barrier product such as TBA Firefly underneath the cladding.
