Need advice for colour scheme in my living room
Comments (5)Paint your side board with Annie Sloan chalk paint. Probably cost you about $150-$200 to do yourself. I have done quite a bit of my older style furniture and it has really given me a new life for the furniture and saved me $$$ in not having to replace.. I did a mini story called 'painting a table' (in before and after in Houzz - if interested just put title in search box) showing my dining table painting job, check out that you like the finish first as it is waxed, I personally love it, it has a really soft look. It is not for a sleek house....See MoreWhat to do with 70s bronze aluminium window frames?
Comments (3)Probably cheaper to replace with new windows unit actually, unless you can sort the seals, etc. yourself. Some new houses are again using the bronze. Just doing a renovation and granny flat which is using the original bronze. 50 shades of grey is starting fall out of favour so people are looking at using something 'different'. Browns like Jasper Colorbond is becoming popular!...See MoreWhat style of deck for a '70s house?
Comments (21)" It is sooo tricky to get the balance right between modern and sympathetic to 70's." 100%, and if this stuff was easy, us Pro's wouldn't have a job ;) It's always ALL about balance, and when it comes to questions of what to do to existing dwellings it's probably just as much about what you don't do. You need to get the scaling , articulation and detail right. You don't want to do something that looks tacked on and incongruent with the existing. If you are extending a deck to the side on an upper level you'll need to take into consideration potential overlooking to neighbouring private space. We're currently working on a similar upper level deck extension to an existing 70's dwelling, and what we've done is use a combination of different balustrade materials (charcoal random depth timber battening & frameless glass) to simultaneously control the overlooking, focus the outlook, and achieve a balanced complimentary design. It depends on what the deck is for, is it for private use or are you trying to gain access to a view? These things will all influence the design. Budget of course will also influence what you do. The design solution ultimately should begin with responding to the function first and foremost, and then what it actually looks like will (should) naturally spring from this in conjunction with a sensitive response in balance with the existing & with consideration of your budget constraint Good luck! Comments (25)To bring rhythm and flow with the house I would continue to use the monument on the garage door to bring connection of the deck with the house. Use the same for the baton on the deck. If doing the roof look to a similar colour as monument or in fact the same. Perhaps look at Half or Quarter monument for the concrete steps up to the front door. Paint your front door a colour to draw the eye..perhaps a dark, mid blue. The guttering looks in good condition but I would paint that the same as the roof including the downpipes. Go for a standard white under the eaves. I feel like you need something to the left of the garage to balance things out for street appeal. Greenery planted to hide the gap up to bottom of deck but planted towards the street to allow a meter gap to walk through from left of garage....See Moreme me
