Dear Houzz forum,We're overdue to replace our front door. So far, I know that I want two side louvers with security screens so we can let breeze in, plus solid front door.All of our trims are white, so I don't think a timber door with black trim will work. Although there is a timber deck.Dimensions are H2040 x W1980.Should we go white metal, white or brown timber stain....?

What are the houses (street / neighborhood) around you like? Many houses being renovated and moving away for the original designs? Or, more minimal cosmetic facelifts? With your spotted gum decking, you'll have a timber clash with the front door. Might need to work around that as well as maintaining connection to the street / area. Kate is on the money ... put the new deck in and upload a picture then. Too many variables with how the deck will look when finished vs the front door and style of the home etc.

Is this your house , or a beach house ? That inside shot is 'okay' -- I quite like the stairs ( although I suspect it would need side protection to meet regulations ) and the tiles and wall is okay in small doses haha . Without knowing the condition of anything , or what upstairs external looks like , I'd be tempted to pick a colour ( like the blue , or a red or orange or green that suits ) and do the front of the terrace , the garage door and the entrance door in that , and probably keep going and do gutters and other trim . Then I'd get black or charcoal , do the door and window frames in it , as well as the supports , any fences , etc . $200-300 of paint , plus labour ( free if you do it yourself) will give a fresh look , then start on the inside haha , or add suitable landscaping -- flax and cactus and lancewoods , maybe a big glazed pot in your chosen colour with a plant or 17 .

I’d paint everything that can be painted the same colour. The front door could be a earthy version of your favourite colour. You are lucky with your wooden windows which means you can pick one the millions of colours out there. You’re not limited to Colourbond colours but have a look at Woodland Grey which looks great with green gardens. Darker colours are more modern that lighter colours for your type of architecture but when you need your tests what was your preference.

Given there will be a security screen in front which will hide door-
The real view is internal, how will it look from inside with door closed and open. Will the colour make your happy?

Hi Vanessa

I have a couple of suggestions to give you some ideas based on the information given.

Firstly a Pivot Door works very well with Louvre Side Panels. We would not recommend using a metal frame for a Pivot as they will likely fail. A Timber frame is ideal to bear the weight and looks beautiful as well.

Another option to this is a Juliet style door. This has an opening panel in the door with a fixed Security screen. These doors can also be created with Louvre Blades installed into the front panel to create a Unique look allowing airflow, light and most importantly, your privacy.

My Personal Preference is always a Stain to a Timber Door, but white trims do also look amazing.

We would not recommend Black or really dark colors to your timber door as this can cause the wood to warp and crack which will reduce its life. The dark colours attract heat which expands the wood and causes the damage. when the black/dark colour is outside and the interior side is in cooler temperatures the heat distribution is uneven which can cause the warping.
