Our clients came to us wanting a complete redesign and build of their outdated kitchen, laundry, bathroom, and courtyard spaces. The key factors were function and storage as it housed a growing family. The brief was based around modern clean lines with minimal fuss for easy cleaning.

Conceptually we achieved this with the custom-designed concealed storage elements, a palette of neutral-toned timbers and contrasting blacks, whites, and textures. In terms of spatial planning, however, there were certain constraints around moving the plumbing as we were not able to core hole through the slab except between the existing levels within the apartment. This meant the bathroom redesign was fine but the kitchen had to keep a similar layout.

By tweaking the adjacent laundry and moving the existing wall across we were able to counteract this and create the extra space the client wanted. We achieved this by removing the existing basin, replacing it with a combined laundry tub/ hand basin and creating a more compact area for the washer. This not only created a larger kitchen, but it also opened up the overall space further and allowed us to create loads of much needed under stair storage joinery.

As the images show we aligned to the brief through the main living area/kitchen with clean simple details such as push to open drawers and a more modern stair railing. In the bathroom, we added details such as concealed LED mirror lighting, cistern, and in-wall joinery. The shower was left open to create a sense of space with a linear drain the length of the entire room.

Lastly, we livened the courtyard with faux grass, wall planters and lovely designer outdoor furniture making the space so much more welcoming to use.
