Can you draw up a rough plan of the whole space with dimensions. And note where all doors go so we can look at flow.

You have a lovely room and beautiful chairs addition of second hand pieces will add a personal touch, Julie's suggestions are spot on and like Kate suggested dimensions marking doorways etc always helps. It also appears that you have a toddler finding their legs so that will dictate layout.

You have a lot going on in a small part of your room. I assume you have placed all the furniture in the one spot, to keep children away from the fire, and enjoy the ambience. But it appears this is all in a thoroughfare, with fire, internal doors and external doors.
Can I suggest you place your chairs and coffee table against the wall, where the children's trolley is. This depends on what other doors are in that space. This will then free up your corridor to outside, fire and internal doors. You could source a small two seater lounge and add that to the space. The rocker chair appears to be in the way. You could find a plant to put in that corner, therefore taking up less space. You could also source a mesh fire protector to go in front of fire and a safe place to store your fire starting equipment from off the floor.

Hey there! To me the space is screaming for a rug! :) A rug will anchor your layout and create a more homely feel (perfect by the fire). Julie Herberts suggestions are great - make sure you get one long enough so that both front feet of the chairs will fit on the rug with some room either side. My suggestion is to turn your table to run lengthways between the two chairs to allow more traffic past either side, it's looking a little tight. Let us know how you go! :)

it seem sthat this space would be much better as a dining area especilaly when the fire is not being used..have you considered how you could rearrange the other rooms as well but we really need a house plan showing sizes and location of doors and windows to be specific

This is a classic case of a "Family room" but they left the traffic lights out! It is a major intersection in the journey thru your home: in any and every direction and as such is very difficult to furnish. Using ribbon or string mark the walk paths needed to rooms past, outside, kitchen etc. You will then have found the largest area for furniture and looking at the pictures it may not be there in front of the fire. A rug will help define the sitting space with couch, two chairs and rocker or the combination that fits and suits you.

The usage will change too as little people grow, run, study, have hoards of hungry friends etc! I do hope you have an opportunity to sit and watch the beautiful fire as some stage! "Oh so wonderful sitting absolutely still, I would never budge till spring crept over me windowsill..." Sorry carried away into My Fair Lady!!
