Storage around fireplace
Comments (14)If you don't want to settle for either colour shade (dark or light) you can always do a mix: frame of your storage light and have the inside of the shelves is dark or the other way round to match your existing furniture. You could even go and make it a great feature wall. Maybe some the images below will give some inspiration. Another option is to "frame" the fire place area by putting some fire safe material behind and under (maybe in the exact height of your black sideboard on the left wall). Storage could be mounted to upper half of the wall. I'd probably try to leave the storage half "open" since the fireplace is kind of freestanding....See MoreHelp with layout of master, ensuite & robe renovation
Comments (20)Thank you both very much. You've both put a lot of thought and effort into this, its much appreciated! Its definitely opened up my thoughts and ideas on the space! Its definitely not as daunting as I was thinking and it is do-able! When you look at it everyday you get a bit stuck. I guess I need to weigh up making that study space smaller. It then makes the house technically 3B 2B. But I'm going to have to compromise somewhere for this to work! Its nice to have something tangible and clear to show the builders, so thank you! I might start drawing up something that's a little of both, as I love aspects of both designs. :)...See MoreWhat to do with this fireplace and doors?
Comments (8)I would give the firpelace a good clean and get rid of the decades of dirt that has been built-up before making a decision. It has lots of character and is a real centrepiece to the room, however it does seem to dominate the room. This is due to the stark contrast of the empty, white walls, and the lack of furniture and window coverings. I wouldn't rush into making a decision until you have at least cleaned it up and considered some more vibrant paint options than Landlord White. Have a look at some of the dirtier shades of Millenial Pink, such as Cuticle Pink from Dulux for the wall behind the fireplace as this will tie in well with the existing mortar and soften the contrast bewteen brickwork and wall. https://www.dulux.com.au/colour/colour-trends/2018/escapade The room is really a blank canvas and if you use the fireplace as a starting point then you could end up with something really glorious. I think you will regret trying to conceal the fireplace under render, paint or plasterboard as it will destroy most of the character. There is nothing wrong with the brickwork and it is appropriate for the style of the building. A better solution for the doors would be to rehinge them so that they open inwards into the room, which will be cheaper, and more approporiate for the original style. You have an elegant, period room bursting with potential and just waiting to be appreciated and loved for what it is, and not modernised for the sake of transient fashion. Comments (11)As Kate said, do you have, do you need? It has to work for the items you are storing in it. For some people it might be only clothes, and perhaps not even overcoats, shoes, underwear, sportswear which are kept elsewhere. For other people it might be everything and linen for that bedroom and the suitcase as well. So look at what you've got and what it needs, hanging space and long or short, shelf space, enclosed drawers, particularly large space (eg suitcase), particularly small space (eg jewellery), particularly tall space (eg boots), particularly wide space (eg spare quilt). If I remember the required dimensions right, one side of your WIR looks generous for hanging space so maybe you can do something with the ends, though beware of creating difficult to reach corners, and the other side is too narrow, so that's shelving/drawers and maybe hooks. What might you store up top, and how often will you need access, think about a pull down hanging rail or a rolling ladder, or somewhere to store a stepstool....See MoreJE C
