1960s BRICK HOME - Front Door
Hi everyone, we have a beautiful 1960s brick home and want a new front door. We love the existing one, but it’s not very secure with kids and would like privacy. I have included a photo of a timber door which I like, but I really want something that will compliment the era of house.
Also there are a few photos of our home to give you an idea of it, the windows have since been tinted and are dark now.

4 years agoLooks like you have a 50’s house like mine and like the 70”s style. that is a stunning door. It’s the knob that doesn’t work

Comments (14)You have some great space their for an amazing landscape. It really depends on the style you are after. There are a few that will work with the house! The picture posted above is a great example of a planted out native front garden, or you could go for more of a Palm Springs style with feature curved beds at the points of the lawn while keeping the turf through the middle. This would work well with succulents and great architectural planting. The horizontal lines of your home even lend themselves towards a Japanes inspired garden. You can perfectly frame your house with some beautiful Japanese Maples and underplant with soft foliage plants such as Acacia cognata 'Limelight'. It does depend on your climate and aspect, however so be mindful of where the hot sun might be! But my question is why is we read article after article on kitchen designs with advice from designers stating never to put a dishwasher in a corner as it is not practical. Articles always state that it should never block access to another cupboard and if possible access from both sides. First thing I noticed in the picture was the dishwasher. Comments (2)Thanks, so we are looking at replacing the balcony windows, they need replacing as they're not sealed well and we're not comfortable with them from a safety perspective with our kids. When I said originally the balcony had Stegbar windows, I guess originally it was actually an open balcony!! But we have a picture from the previous owners that shows the Stegbar style windows, so we believe the balcony was enclosed sometime in the early years after it was built in 1961. We want to preserve it as an enclosed balcony as it gives us a really great amount of space inside. Good to know there are lots of pictures of mid century houses on Houzz showing darker window frames, all I could find in my google searches etc were white! I'll have to have a look. Darker frames might provide us with the colour contrast I think we need and save us from having to paint the gutters and the garage door. We thought we might have to introduce some colour if we did do white windows, but would rather not....See More
