I think if you replace front door and glass panels as well as the old fashioned lights with something more contemporary it will make a huge improvement. I'd also remove the ironwork and as you cannot re-glaze place some pots and plants on the sides of the large windows to draw the eye away from all the green cross pieces on the windows. Eventually paint the gutters fascia in a light grey/green.

Thanks for your thoughts, they have helped us with our decision. We're now planning on using the barramundi roof tile (it's a grey, a bit softer than the soho nights black. And not so shiny) with matching gutter and fascia. And the cladding in paperbark. I was thinking cream windows instead of the timber, so there's some lighter colours on the brick downstairs to tie it to the top. We can't match it exactly to the paperbark cladding because we aren't using aluminium windows, but I'm hoping the cream (which is supposed to be more of an off-white with this manufacturer) will look okay in the clad dormers upstairs. Fingers crossed!

Hi Pele - I hope you don't mind, but to my mind the thing that immediately jumps out at me as not fitting is the colour of the orange terrace tiles! The wall colour and roof colour seem in the earth/cool ochre range, and sort of complement the cool grey driveway even though they are different. The terrace tiles being bright orange clash! If you do/don't have the budget, I would prioritise painting or staining these tiles the Basalt colour which is a deeper grey like bluestone! Or even better switch your budget to retiling this area with a deeper grey or bluestone exterior tile. Add a few plant pots - and I love your timber garage door and possibly timber balustrade - and it would be dramatically transformed! I think this would be a better impact-for-dollar than painting the roof tiles which look to me to be in good condition. Good Luck!

Thanks so much to you both for your advice and questions. Main reason for the change is insulation. We're also renovating the back of the house to open it out to the garden and change the cladding on an existing extension so getting new sliding doors. Planning to repaint gutters, fascias. Re our goal, we are just trying to make it all blend, so trying not to make anything look too modern for the traditional brick veneer house. Great to get your thoughts pottsy99. Do you think monument would look too modern? We know from looking at other houses that white, cream don't look great. Seems we're down to monument, dune or paperback.
