Meet YardPod - A Tiny House Design Providing Affordable Architecture

We are super thrilled to show you the first images of the YardPod prototype, a KGA initiative for a standardised tiny house design and construction, providing smart and affordable architecture for urban backyards.

A YardPod is a tiny house; an affordable, smart and architectural designed space. Made for urban backyards and rural natural settings alike, the pods provide an affordable and environmental responsible alternative to traditional building additions.

The sustainable designed tiny house is a beautiful crafted architectural statement. Built on the thermal mass of concrete, the walls and roof are constructed from engineered Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs), finished outside in corrugated metal and inside in natural oiled birch plywood with expressed black joints. The roof maintains a low profile without dominating the space and integrates well in established backyards or natural settings.

The YardPod+ comes complete with bathroom and kitchenette and sits on a footprint of 4m x 6.5m. The basic YardPod has no bathroom or kitchenette joinery and is based on a footprint of 4m x 5m. The YardPodmini has a compact floor plan of 4m x 2.8m and is ideal situated for small urban backyards.

Use: A YardPod adopts to your changing needs, be it either a study, art studio, guest room, sleep-out or as a rental ‘tiny house’, providing an additional source of income. There are plenty of ways to incorporate a YardPod into your life.

Price: We are expecting the pricing for a basic YardPod with a 4m x 5m footprint to start at $67,500 fully built and installed, but excluding approval and site establishment cost.

Construction: Due to the engineered construction systems, the YardPods can be built in a short timeframe. During the construction of our prototype, it took only 3 days for the walls and the roof to be installed.

Approvals: The approval process varies depending on the intended use and where the pod will be located. No planning approvals are required should you use the YardPod as a garden shed or storage room. In most cases where a planning approval is needed, this can be done through a fast-tracked Complying Development approval (CDC).
