I think you could get the telly put over the fireplace. Might need a mantle to deflect radiant heat, not sure. But on the cables and power, I imagine they can get that sorted. Im guessing there is a wall behind you when you took the photos. I agree that a low corner modular sofa would look great. Just don't get it so long that it is up against the fireplace wall. Placed into that corner of end and piano walls . Then pop your cute chair where the sofa is now. Large ( big enough for the sofa front legs sit on it, I'm guessing 2x3m or even 3x4m) patterned rug to define the area. Can you move the piano to another room or against the computer area wall? Can you make the small windowed room the homework hub? Imagine a long bench against the window ( Ikea do a good cheap range that you make to fit your space). Ensuring the computers are in line of sight from the kitchen(?). Pull out the table to give it more space around it. Or flip it to run the other direction. Hard to tell from the pics the dimensions. Paint a lighter shade as mentioned before. A sketch of your floorplan would be really helpful :)

First thing I'd do is throw the grey carpet up onto the sofa. Meaning it's colour. Introduce a thick grey throw, loosely folded over one of the seats, up over the back then layer your cushions in front of that. Building up onto it will scatter your colour palette around and start bringing it all together. It will be softened. However keep your colours to a minimum, perhaps 2. This does not include tones of colour, as many as you like will add interest and sophistication. In a chocolate and grey interior, it could be luxe, but I am thinking shades of salmon and mustard up against creams and greys. You also need to link your walls to the sofas, as the floor area looks heavy in comparison. To correct it you either introduce the wall colour down onto the floor, or the floor colour up onto the wall, it will balance it out. I'd place large black frames with rich colours of chocolate with perhaps gold leaf or metallics. Keep it abstract to be modern, or even go the opposite with some classic charcoal pencil sketches in a pair of large frames. The images will start to personify your space, so choose the context of the image that you can continue a theme from, like architecture where you can place related objects on a side table, even coffee table, I love tables with reference books that on a Whim you can pick up for inspiration. It shows who you are and what you aspire to. Or it may be floral, landscapes, paintings whatever, find something that works. Don't necessarily go looking for art, you can make it, save an image online, print and frame to suit you and your budget. Even an a3 image can be framed in a larger frame to make a bold statement, just add a frame Matt that you get from a picture frame shop. Ikea also have ready made large frames too. For some reason emerald green keeps popping into my mind when I look at your room, maybe some plants, foliage can liven a space but also, slight little traces of it around can freshen a space. Maybe thin picture frames, or spines of books can bring this in.

m_walker5, just from the 2 photos so far it seems to me the main first improvement to that space would be to remove the wall to the kitchen, so you need to find out if this is loadbearing or not. Stick your head up through the ceiling manhole to see how the structure is framed. If it is fully framed (rafters, ceiling joists, struts bearing down on internal walls) chances are that that wall is loadbearing. On the other hand if it is gangnail trusses (triangular frames with W braces held together with metal nail-plates) you are in luck. These typically span between outside walls and internal walls can usually be changed or removed easily. This is your staring point for deciding how far you want to go with this depending on budget, and is the point where you should involve an architect/designer to work out a comprehensive renovation plan. I have just completed a very similar project where the renovation was urgent (kitchen cabinets were falling off the walls!) but the budget was greatly reduced as the owner unexpectedly lost one source of income. We managed to do a full kitchen renovation, remove walls to create larger open-plan spaces, full re-sand and polish of floors, full internal repaint, all for about $80,000.
