Your pendants need to be beautiful and practical. You have no direct task lighting over the island, therefore your pendants need to be practical to provide correct lighting. Pendants that make shadows may not be a practical choice. I would look at brass lighting to match your tap and handles.

I say go for a trendy timber pendant, it will keep with the light and fresh vibe that you want but provide a focal point that white or clear glass will not. The warmth of the timber will reinforce the warmth of the brass plus add another element of texture.

I understand what you are saying but I will have a large wooden table with wooden chairs right opposite the kitchekitchen and some stools so I was thinking they would be my focal point? Otherwise it might be aan overkill.

Got a pic of the light on and both poles fitted ... I think with the bbrass handles on the cabinets and some nice stools it will look ok? The left pole is hanging a bit lower to see whwhich one I prefer

Your school house style lamps are lovely and could work at the lower height with bulbs that have the silver top to help spread the light downwards.,don't know what they are called.

Re , down lights you have 3 across the front of the bulk head, one each in front of the pantry, cooktop and fridge. are there any over the top of the island or stools

Tne wall cabinets have a light in the range hood are there lights below both wall cabinets? which I would include, a fitted small pot light in both would work well.

On another thought would you be able to fit another full height panel as per the Pantry next to the wall and base cabinets in the fridge space to make the fridge built in ie: you won't see the side of the fridge,?

CR, I do like the pendants that you have. I'm just concerned as to how much light they would give for task work. Also, make sure, when standing at the island looking across to dining, that the pendants are higher than the tallest person in the house, line of sight. You chose those pendants, so you must of been drawn to them. And they do look good. Just might not be practical.

Thanks so much for all your help! Yes I'm going to enquire about making the fridge built in with a cupboard in front of it. That way it would look more symmetrical. Also, the down lights I got are super bright and I have another 6 in the area in front of the kitchen so the pendants are more for decor lighting. I am hoping that the cabinet maker will say that it wont cost too much to add a cupboard and hopefully it is allowed to cover a fridge? I will send pics of the rest of tthe room and stool ininspo when I'm at the house next... ahhhhhh:)

It will depend on what size fridge you have and what space you have allowed, the full height Panels are approx 18 thick ea, if you are restricted for width you could just go with the one panel that would go next to the base cabinets and forgo a wall panel, The overhead cabinet would then extend from the Panel across to the wall

If the cost to build the fitted fridge is too expensive, then you already have the light fittings above the island just chose a cheaper light shade until you can afford what you want, I think it's more important to do the built in fridge at this stage, hopefully you can still get matching panels and overhead cabinet. so many decisions.
