Clareville Beach House - Under Construction - Askerrobertson Design

Located on the high side of Clareville Beach in NSW this site is steep with breathtaking views facing the western foreshores national park and covered in mature Pittwater Spotted Gums. The brief for this new north-west facing tree house was to maximise natural light and ventilation, optimising the exposure to the view from it's elevated position whilst minimising the impact on the trees and surrounding bush. Garage, studio and a cantilevered living wing are set high into the hill to limit the visible bulk of the structure from the street below and surrounding houses. The north facing living spaces leads to a generous covered deck, cantilevered over the entrance to the garage below. The sheer drop provides uninterrupted views across the water. The first floor bedroom wing is modest in design. Three small bedrooms with access to the deep verandah running the full length of the wing offering filtered water views through the tree tops and a central passageway separating the bathroom and private master bedroom with ensuite and walk in wardrobe. High ceilings, floor to ceiling windows and large external overhangs allows the light inside in winter and offers shade from the hot western summer sun, allowing the thermal mass of the concrete and earth to stabilise the internal environment. Using a natural palette of materials, such as weathered timber, dark steel sheeting and exposed concrete the home almost disappears into the hillside creating an atmosphere of warmth and comfort. The landscape around the building will eventually envelop it, returning the bush close to it’s original state.
