Need help with colours
Comments (27)I notice you have an aluminium screen door. Are the window frames aluminium as well? If so, you can re-paint them using a bonding substance called ESP. This is a link to Bunnings spray version but it also comes in a liquid you can wipe on and off: https://www.bunnings.com.au/flood-300g-esp-surface-prep-spray_p1560212 It's pretty easy once you get used to removing the screen and re-installing it (makes overpainting go away). It means that the paint won't chip off if someone knocks it which usually happens with aluminium and some other surfaces. Answering your questions, if you make the entrance lighter you may not need to make the walls either side lighter. I like dark - it is very dramatic and not as common. If you start with the entrance you can stand back and look at how it goes with the other walls. Also remember they don't all have to be the same. Variation in colour and texture adds interest, just make sure it doesn't look too busy and all the surfaces blend (not necessarily match). Your back wall is plain and straight, so regardless of the colour you end up choosing it will need to be augmented with something. You could try a large mirror on the blank space between windows. Something with a chunky frame in a contrasting colour and you will have a reflection of the greenery opposite. You could also try a reclaimed timber feature or something rusty or possibly a small timber pergola over the back door (similar colour to the window frames) that will give some depth. It's only paint, so try using patches with sample pots before you put too much effort into painting all the walls. Good luck....See MoreNewly rendered house. Need help with colour scheme to use
Comments (12)Whilst the 'wifes inspiration photo' looks lovely , there are several features that aren't included in your place , so your place will not look 'similar' , and may very well look 'try-hard' . Assuming the roof is in good servicable condition , I'd simply paint the veranda and garage roofs in a fresh terracota orange , do the fences in charcoal , do a garden down the left side of the driveway , 4 to 6 standard roses down the right side and around across the front . The front door looks okay in white , but it makes the terrace there look bare -- add a table and chairs , but also I must ask -- if the inspiration pic has a black gloss door and surrounds , wouldn't you have done that in the black ? And to really embrace the era , why not do a garage tilt door with those 'picture frame' things , and do them the gloss black ( or white if you are keeping the main entrance door white ) . Nice , pleasant , updated version of what you have now . If you do sell , you'll easily gain 20% or more for very little cost , anything more is big $$$ and may not add much ....See MoreHelp! Comments (3)Paint swatches are your friend here, either sample pots or the A4 size that Dulux introduced. Paint looks different in different lighting and surroundings. Our, barest touch of blue, interior paint, has one wall that throws a bit grey in certain light - the one thing I was trying to avoid - but is perfect everywhere else 🤷🏻♀️ . The initial favourite, while the paint chip was very similar seemed over saturated. It’s definitely worth a visit to the paint specialty stores, many have colour consultants, if you’re still undecided. We also found them less expensive, too....See MoreHelp - colour selections
Comments (4)I'd want to see an idea of your house , the area , even things like the slope of the section , whether theres lots of tress or a new subdivision , etc , etc , etc . I don't think I've ever thought " I'll build a house , I want it to look like a castle with turrets but it'll be on a sloping section in the most modern part of town ( or the most budget suburb with broken cars in most front sections ) , so what colour will I do the bricks , the wood ? Oh , and I'm building an ultramodern single level place on a flat section in the most upmarket new subdivision , so I'll see if I can get a deal by buying twice the quantity of each choice , and do both places the same colours . SOME designs will suit Monument and a rich toned timber and light rendered highlight walls and a shimmery silver roof -- whereas the rental property might be whatever light tone is on special at Bunnings that week , and the timber stained packing cases haha ( yes , even I wouldn't do that haha , but no doubt some would ) ....See MoreMardi Harrison
