If there is a storage cupboard underneath the stairs, then I think its best to let go of the open risers. At the end of the day when it comes to stairs, I think you need to make simple decisions, don't complicate it. Sometimes spaces fuss over stairs and they can look great, but they are very impractical, expensive and dangerous. I think if you live in a house with no kids and no elderly, then you can lash out and go for something with more design risk. I think the timber stair profile shown in your picture looks great, and would work well with your vertical timber beam balustrade. However timber stairs can be noisy and quite slippery. If you are using carpet upstairs then you could consider running carpet all the way down the stairs. Don't do the half half thing. In order to finish the edge of the stairs neatly, I would edge the stairs with the plaster finish continuing from the cupboard wall, all the way up to the edge of the stairs and making an edge profile for the carpet to be neatly tucked into. By doing this you could still get the stepping silhouette which would look very cool. Then the beams could run off the plaster surface and not the edge of the carpet. Ultimately carpet may be annoying to have to vacuum, but it is a lot quieter, considerably cheaper and safer than timber stairs. Hope that helps. Good luck with it.

Lovely sofa - traditional with a modern edge. Will look gorgeous. I think you need to balance traditional with modern but don't be afraid to incorporate the odd special antique piece which will give your rooms a nice ecclectic feel and make them look as though you have collected things over time rather than rushed out & bought them all at once. For example, most entertainment units are pretty uninspiring however if you could find a gorgeous antique cabinet & convert the doors to slide inwards you could end up with a lovely unit that disguises the TV when doors are closed which will also make your small room appear larger. As your rooms are small, if it was me I would keep it simple with clean lines as you have done with your sofa and also soft in tonings. Try to minimise the heaviness in your pieces through legs on cabinets etc. so that they float above the floor. Some ideas in pics below & some shops to visit. Don't rush - take your time & do one room at a time & it will come together beautifully. Choose big pieces first. Good luck!

Thank you for all your help, I was thinking of painting the balcony supports to bring in the white again but my husband said he does not really want to paint them as we will have to paint down the track again and keep it up. They are double gav. Do you mean paint the grey around the balcony base to the white swan? So instead of having dark grey gutters and balcony dark grey have dark grey gutters and white swan around balcony? I could not find Tranquil Retreat on the paint visualiser so I used Gray Frost which looks on the internet a similar colour so I could get the idea what it may look like. Any thoughts on below colours? It is funny a lot of people say the Tranquil retreat does not look pale blue but on the Motel it does look pale blue as can be seen on the above real photos.

These drawings are not to scale so may not work, but this is what I would be striving for if it were my house. Retain the 3-way bathroom but move the shower to a lovely large open shower and add a toilet opening off the laundry. It reduces the laundry size, but I would rather a second toilet over a larger laundry any day. And this shouldn't be a hideously expensive remodel as it leaves much of the existing in place. The biggest issue would be plumbing for the new toilet. You could eliminate the basin in the second toilet if you designed the laundry so that the wash tub doubles as a hand basin. I've seen that done in ways that are quite attractive. (Apologies for the rather rough drawings).
