Carpet Flooring dilemma

I have chosen Signature Carpets "Harlow- Creighton" 65 oz carpet with a pile length of 16mm.Half of the carpet was laid before x-mas and not finished. I took a sample of the laid carpet to the showroom to compare with the sample there and the colour was different. I have now taken the showroom sample home to compare what had been laid on the floor and found that the showroom sample had the same length of fibre, but had a mush plusher feel to it and felt very much dense.I am currently walking on the unfinished Creigton carpet and have footmarks everywhere I go, to the point of toe-marks(bare feet) still imprinted on the carpet the next day!

I have now compared a sample of Harlow Creighton laid at my property and Luxcloud Florian(very much cheaper) and apart from the pile height there is no difference. Both of them are tracking very badly and look awful, especially compared to the denser showroom sample.

I get the impression that there is either a problem with the wrong carpet delivered from the carpet importer or maybe the more expensive carpet ordered by me was substituted with the cheaper Luxcloud Florian. The third scenario is that there is no difference in density between the cheaper and more expensive carpet and only the height is different. However, this still does not explain why the sample from the showroom seems to be much denser and does not track very much.

A sales rep from the carpet importer is coming on Monday.

Is there anybody who had a similar experience and who could give me some advice?

The importers sales rep is coming in a few days and I just want as much info as possible.

I love a good wool carpet and wouldn't have anything else. Colour choice would depend on the effect you want in your room, the lighting and what colours you have in furniture and furnishings. There are not a huge range of colour choices but a cream or light tan should compliment your bricks nicely and not restrict your other colour choices. Don't be afraid to use pale colours in wool, I have had both light and dark colours and find the light colours show less fluff and dirt and are easier to keep clean.

If there is a storage cupboard underneath the stairs, then I think its best to let go of the open risers. At the end of the day when it comes to stairs, I think you need to make simple decisions, don't complicate it. Sometimes spaces fuss over stairs and they can look great, but they are very impractical, expensive and dangerous. I think if you live in a house with no kids and no elderly, then you can lash out and go for something with more design risk. I think the timber stair profile shown in your picture looks great, and would work well with your vertical timber beam balustrade. However timber stairs can be noisy and quite slippery. If you are using carpet upstairs then you could consider running carpet all the way down the stairs. Don't do the half half thing. In order to finish the edge of the stairs neatly, I would edge the stairs with the plaster finish continuing from the cupboard wall, all the way up to the edge of the stairs and making an edge profile for the carpet to be neatly tucked into. By doing this you could still get the stepping silhouette which would look very cool. Then the beams could run off the plaster surface and not the edge of the carpet. Ultimately carpet may be annoying to have to vacuum, but it is a lot quieter, considerably cheaper and safer than timber stairs. Hope that helps. Good luck with it.

All floor coverings need a fairly good, and level base, so it really depends on just how rough the existing concrete slab is. There is no point in wasting money on a new floor if it is going to show the unevenness of the slab. I would use your remaining budget to level off the roughness, which may involve grinding back concrete, and/or using a levelling compound. Then cover the whole lot with a durable paving paint until you can afford the floor you want to live with forever. For an awkwardly shaped space like that, I would tile the whole area to provide the most flexibility for furniture arrangements and living. Nothing worse than a joint between different floor finishes in an open plan area. The hexagonal floor tile in this photo would work beautifully with your hexagonal floor plan as it is non-directional, and would fit in very neatly with the geometry of the architecture.
