I think it will look more established when the cones have grown a bit hahahaha . . . . . . . . .
On a serious note , I'd waterblast the fence and concrete . The fence on the left looks like it is stained in quite a nice grey with an almost greenish tinge ( or maybe its weathered that way ? ) so the obvious temptation is to say do the taller fence the same , but I feel that may be too much -- I'd do the taller fence in a charcoal stain for the contrast , and physcologically setting the boundary .
Add a stone garden with leafy pants and cactus to suit -- I wouldn't go too big , as its a smaller area , OR do the whole thing , and not have to worry about mowing .
The concrete area I'd do a table and 4 or 6 outdoor chairs -- a 'sympathetic' style to your house . In other words , a modern house with a red front door , maybe a dimpled smoked glass table with a charcoal alloy frame , and faded or distressed red metal or canvas chairs ; a colonial style house would 'need' a white painted table and blue and white striped canvas chairs , etc , or cape cod style or similar .
And I have never understood the fire pit thing -- too permanent , too trendy for me . Or I'm cheap and lazy haha -- I'd go for a 6 burner hooded stainless barbeque instead -- then you can actually use it !
Agree water blasting fence then paint a dark charcoal, you could have a small fire pit area, add waterproof wicker resin furniture under your sail, add lush hardy plants in your planter box or you could plant a few gorgeous silver birches and add a water feature, remove grass and add stone mulch and path for an easy care beautiful garden
Front yard: paint the fence then plant a row of one plant with contrasting or complementary flowers e.g. lavender, red hot pokers, bird of paradise, canna lilies, a rosemary hedge. Or hide the fence with the ‘right’ kind of bamboo, it will provide height and movement . You could espalier fruit trees which apparently are easy one you get them going.
Back yard: somewhere to sit, somewhere to cook/BBQ, somewhere to eat, something beautiful to look at e.g. a deciduous tree, a standard rose, a climbing plant, a sculpture or birdbath.
