I don't think I have ever seen a marble around an exterior pool. Possibly as it is a very soft and porous rock, and pool environments tend to have lots of chemicals. Some of the pool chemicals that are used to keep the right water balances can be fairly acidic and corrosive so I reckon you are asking for trouble.

If you have a 1970's house (which is not strictly mid-century) would you consider a slate? Lots of colours and formats available, more resistant to pool chemicals and more non-slip. You can't beat a crazy paving pattern for that mid-century vibe.

Dr Retro, we do love crazy paving, however the area to be covered is around 100 square metres, so that it a whole lot of 'crazy'!

100sq.m of anything is a whole lot! Whether it be crazy paving, tiles or marble. Make sure that whatever you are laying it on is stable and secure before laying, and allow for expansion joints. The best looking crazy paving is that laid by professional stonemasons, especially if you can source large slabs of stone. The larger the stone the better it looks in a large area as there is less grouting between pavers. If you can't afford a stonemason for 100sq.m of crazy paving then the next best option is the Decor Stone crazy pave which can be laid by a tiler.

I don't know anything about pool tiles , except that slipping on anything is bad !

But 100 square metres of tiling sounds huge , and boring ! I'd spend half the money , and do ( stained timber ) terracing , some spots of grass , ferns , bamboos , a water feature -- anything to look interesting and not just half a footie field of marble or concrete . Anything more than a metre and a bit of tiles around a pool is too much IMO , so unless your pool is 40metres long , 100 sq mtr is too much !

Mixing up textures is good, Have some natural stone and some areas grass. Remember in summer the sun can get a little too bright and if you have 100m2 of tiles/pavers (assuming a lighter coloured material) it'll reflect a lot of light.

We recommend travertine as an option for pool surrounds as it has non slip surface and doesn't heat up. From experience, Most of our customers use Honed and unfilled tumbled edge, for the more natural look.

The 100 square metres is spread across the pool, an alfresco area and another area.

When you say most of your customers use travertine, does that include silver or just the standard cream/ beige colour? (Which we’re not interested in.) Trying to get information about whether silver/ grey trav would be hot or not is difficult.

We have been selling more silver travertine for outdoor areas in 2019-2020. But travertine, in general, has been a popular material to use for outdoors as it is a calcite material which withstands the changes in temperature and reflects heat rather than absorbing it.

But if you want to be sure, you are welcome to pick up a sample piece and see how it is under sunlight etc.
