Timber floorboards - narrow or wide?

We are owner-builders, our house is on brick piers with bearers and joists, with yellow-tongue sub-floor.
We want to lay timber floor boards over the yellow-tongue, and have heard that narrow floorboards are better than the wide ones because the wide ones may "cup". We also heard that if the wide boards are glued down first, they won't "cup"
Any advice, or do's and don'ts of using timber floorboards would be appreciated
Thanks in advance
