Hey Camira1999, your pool area has huge potential. We love the wooden element you've added to your outdoor area. You could also add in some more foliage to the area, like we did in the projects below. Lacquering the back fence will also make a difference to the feel of the pool area. We also are manufacturers of DIY glass pool fences, balustrades, mirrors and splashbacks - you can pick up fences in a range of styles (ie: semi frameless, frameless with or without mini posts,etc) from your local Bunnings. Small deck, no view, except of the fence and the neighbour's garage. We have had a few BBQs there, and hope to get into a pattern of having breakfast and lunch there in better weather. I've got some herbs planted (but not really enough sunlight) and am working on other plants. Dog loves it: he sprawls on his bed or rolls on the 1.5 m of grass, and is content. Birds also love it: they come in at regular intervals to eat the dog's food. Me, I'm just deciding how to best enjoy the fairly new house, and I think the deck will be a big part of it as we go along.

I use a magnetic strip and love that it keeps the bench clear. I don't like knife blocks very much as they are hard to keep clean. I use quite a few knives frequently and I don't find they get dusty at all – and the ones I use less frequently, like the fish filleting knife, I just wipe with a damp cloth before using but, as I usually touch it up with the sharpener before tackling a fish, I would wipe it after sharpening anyway. I have mine near the stove but in a reasonably discreet spot so I don't feel that they are out on display.

Definitely creating zones as mentioned above. Depending on body corporate regulations I like the idea of a timber removable tile that can add texture... here is an Australian company that you can buy and install yourself http://www.northernriverstimber.com.au/decking-tiles.html . (IKEA have timber tiles too see image) Pebbles could work to edge the tiles to finish off the space if cutting not desired. Another thing to consider is larger heavy furniture pieces to ensure no movement in high winds. Greenery would look good grouped into larger pots/planters (even if just placed inside in their smaller pots easy to take with you or replace) to give a lush garden feeling. Native grasses and drought friendly plants would work for this area.
