Thx for the pics but you really need to post a sketch of the layout with measurements, including surrounding rooms. You’ll get some great advice here that way.

You could Remove both WIR's and make a good size bathroom. What is on the other side of wall circled? You could close in both jack and Jill doors, and make a single entrance into full bathroom. This would give room along the wall in both Bedrooms for built in robes. (See attached sketch)What is the floor, concrete slab or timber. Is this upstairs, or on ground floor?

Brick will make any renovation more costly and time consuming. But, after seeing your plans with better information, this is my suggestion. Remove WIR, walls marked in red. Close up both jack and Jill doors. Remove double basins from where they are now and reposition on external wall, for ease of plumbing. Do not remove toilet, do not remove shower. Shower can be made longer without moving plumbing. New entry from passage where vanities were. Put BIR along wall in bedrooms. Your could comfortably get 2500mm of BIR space. Just need to consider whether a modification of this bathroom setup, is worth losing the WIR space.

My first reaction to your J & J bathroom and robes was, WHY. the big mistake was not having swapped the bathroom with robes to start with, this would have given light and fresh air into a dark space. Also if you look at the current WIR and imagine that as bathroom and you do intend keeping a J&J bathroom, this will give better privacy from both bedrooms, that of this moment if you lay back on both beds you can look straight through the bathroom.

The bedrooms are quite generous in size.

These particular bathroom set-ups are arguably overrated in their practicality and efficiency. Two way access actually limits layout opportunity. Consider the option of developing access to the bathroom from the passage separately and having built in robes accessed from within the bedroom spaces. You'll have a much more spacious main bathroom that can easily accommodate a separate bath.

Yes I agree with the others: this was designed by a nuff nuff! Why not at very least for better/nicer living swap robes to inside and bathroom to external wall for natural free light and air.

I like the option of making a real bathroom off the hall and moving the db vanity will be easiest.

So you will have door with a long view down hallway make sure you can see straight thru the bathroom out a window to a view of garden and not see the toilet. Yes it looks to me like a bath and double vanity would easily fit taking room straight to external wall. Maybe even a robe too in the far corners if not the bedrooms are large enough to take a robe on the walls where the doors are. (As per Kate's red makes on the plan)

I see the same silliness is in the other bedroom with the robe (which doesn't matter) on the external wall and the ensuite an internal room. Yes I know the mechanical vent and light is fine but why have to pay for it if a simple sensible switching of plan would make the light, air, vent free and so much nicer.

This with twin ensuites, keeping the current toilet insitu and adding a second in a similar situation. These bathrooms have a large window above the bath which shares it's space with the shower, becoming a wet room area. Plenty of room for Robes, QB's etc, you could add Barn Doors to the bathrooms, so no extra costs for sliding cavity doors and they add charm and character to the rooms.

Consider that this is an "Architect" designed home supposedly solar passive, it has numerous areas that need reconfiguring but my budget will not cover them all for quite some time. Needs insulation, smart glass if not double glazing (preferred) & a heating system not reliant on electricity as is the case with the extensive under floor heating. Sometimes I wonder why I bought it!!! The clincher was the studio space upstairs!

Sounds like you need to consider Solar panels with battery storage to run the heating system that has already been installed. I live in an Architect designed house that has also had a few challenges but wonder if this was caused by the owner making small changes, We still love the house and enjoy every day we live here, so hope you will enjoy your studio and be able to make some changes so that the house works better for you. Where is the house, sounds cold climate.

Yes, it is my intention. I live in a cool but mediterranean climate on the South of Western Australia in Albany. The cooler temperatures are why I moved here.

I really like Oklouise's second plan. It becomes a three person bathroom with robes too. Also the loo staying in situ and only moving other things a short distance is probably a better option on the purse: a win win. How many bathrooms do you need? I do not like a bath under the window if it can be helped as you need to step into the bath or stretch over it and hence creating several physio appointments to open the window. There are easier less expensive ways!

Yeedalong, if you are planning to do the twin japanese style bathrooms, my idea for a second toilet to save on mess and money was to use the following system, they are more expensive but should be more cost effective. I have used this system when staying in a newly restored hotel which was very impressive. You are an artist do you have likewise guests come for workshops etc.

How curious, I have actually been contemplating the saniflow system for a downstairs, under the stairs shower & toilet! I have mostly family visitors, however the possibility of workshop guests has crossed my mind.

Because it is very low under the eaves & I would like to make it follow the roof angle to bring in more light from skylight.

you mean to make the bathroom ceiling slope to follow the slope of the roof? ... that would look great but is a very expensive way to increase light as i think that the roof window with the original flat ceiling will bring in more than enough light OR consider a standard opening window in the outside bathroom wall first and save the more expensive elaborate changes to rooms that you spend more time in

If I am putting in a venting skylight it will be no more expensive to repair the ceiling space. The roof is a simple gable.
