Yes, the colorbond cladding is Surfmist and the profile is Lysaght Spandek - which we used as it has a nice sharpness to it [compared with standard corrugated 'Custom Orb'] and reflected the batten and board of the original cottage on the site, without all the maintenance.
If you do use Spandek, a key trick to making it look really good is to custom-measure all of the corner and window side flashings once the cladding has been installed - then the flashings can be as small as possible in width and align with the edge of one of the corrugations [which you can see on the corner closest to the camera]. If you try to make one flashing width that matches all scenarios, you end up with an ugly wide flashing everywhere.
Thanks for the advice, we were just figuring out what you meant. It takes a bit more finesse from the installer but it will look 100% better pre-measuring. We are actually using custom orb in a Matt-surfmist as it suits the feel of our house a bit more but I like the spandek equally. I’ll post some photos of our project in this thread as they come to hand (only just completed the slab).
one thing to mention, as advised by a couple of our builders - the Matte colorbond is difficult to patch up if it's scratched on installation [which can easily happen], so any fixes on the cladding stand out, as it will have a different texture. The slightly shinier finish on the standard colorbond seems to conceal these blemishes.
Hmmm that’s food for thought Matt. I know from the sample I have that it’s damn hard to clean as it’s quite fibrous. The reason we’re going Matte is largely for the neighbours as the reflection of regular is going to be an issue. Don’t know any work arounds apart from choosing another colour?
We originally wanted a nail strip profile but it seems that anything that requires a ply substructure and has concealed fixings costs so much more.
Here’s a couple of renders of our little surfmist energy efficient number. Don’t know how you’d classify this style of design...we can’t put our finger on it
I am not sure where you are located, but here in Tassie we have a fabricator - Structuur - that fold their own profiles. They have a profile similar to nail strip that uses a thicker metal sheet and so avoids the need for the plywood substructure. I am sure the product would be available around the country. Maybe give them a call to enquire and they may be able to at least refer you to another fabricator local to you.
