master bedroom design ideas

hi, I'm trying to go for a relaxed coastal boho feel in my bedroom. light bright airy etc I'm torn on this bed head and what to do with it. I painted it white thinking that would help but I think it still drags the room down. Get rid of it or what to do? pic attached of my room now, inspiration pics and last photo is my spare room which I'm trying to replicate. thanks

the bed head is white washed so the wood is coming through that's why it looks darker.

The bed head doesn’t look white. Is that the before photo? Neither do the walls. Not sure if it I’m the lighting.
The doona and bed head colours are too close. One needs to be white to give the strong contrast
The wicker will need to go too as it’s a warm tone

hi Kate yeah they're actually the same white, lexicon qtr. It was a natural wood color before and I white washed it thinking it would look better.

$3000 is not a lot of money to spend on a make-over. This means that your decsions will be guided by your budget, and what you can live with, and what needs replacing. For instance if the carpet is in a good usable condition (I can't see from the photos or information), then use that as a starting point for the choice of colours and materials for the rest of the space. Your budget will exclude any changes other than paint to your ensuite and existing cabinetwork. One of the most important aspects of a bedroom makeover is the window furnishings to make sure that they block out enough light for those early summer mornings, and keep the heat in during thise cold winter nights. Careful selection of bedside lights can give you a lot of bang for your buck, as can a fresh coat of paint. Unfortunately only generalisations can be made about your makeover without any understanding of the rest of the room, the location of the ensuite, your climate, your existing furniture, the orientation and the type of doors. Good design is informed by understanding the client, the constraints, and the opportunities. You have not provided any meaningful information for a meaningful response. I wouldn't. If having a master suite were important to me I would buy a modern home that has one. The thing about historic homes is that they typically had three equal sized bedrooms. It's part of the character of the home. If you combine two squareish bedrooms you will end up with a strangely shaped rectangular room that's not really all that useful. Particularly as you mention they both have french doors that go to a verandah. Those doors pretty much limits what you can do with the rooms. You will be trying to either preserve the symmetry of the doors or build a wardrobe wall up close to one and have the whole look of the room thrown off. A heritage home is what it is. It's never going to be a modern home and it's limitations are what people expect when they buy one. The limitation is a traditional floorplan that doesn't necessarily reflect modern lifestyle choices. One conversion that is often done on federations is part of the verandah is built in, and turned into a WIR or ensuite. Many of these homes already have built-in verandah sections so doing so won't necessarily ruin the character. Particularly if you infill them with a nice casement windows and appropriate trims on the outside.

We have a small ensuite and rarely,if ever, have two people in there. No need for two vanities. Save that for the main family bathroom.

Hi Ali,
I really like the colour of the headboard but I think the side tables are not right, you could whitewash them or go for a different look, love the oversized ottoman, crisp white linen, sea grass cushions would look gorgeous,love your inspiration photos I love boho it is such a beautiful look.

I like your bedhead with it's little floating side tables, I would remove the other side tables and add lights as per julies 2nd photo. What's happening with the bed base? You could add a circular sea grass mat and remove the other stuff at the end of the bed?, You're almost there just a bit more attention to detail

the bed base is just a brown cover over the ensemble base. we tried having just the floating shelves but no storage is a killer. thanks for your input😃

maybe change the brown to a softer beige, as as julie said white wash the larger side tables, leave the baskets natural, perhaps a Fokati floor rug, add a hanging light, what do you have on the larger window for interest you could add matchstick blinds cheap and effective you can even spray paint them, and add a plant

A white texture duvet would lighten it beautifully. Perhaps something with height in the corner to the left of the bed, like your photos.. unsure of your location. Was thinking toi toi. Or greenery.. basket type drop lights would look lovely.
