Will a dark ceiling work?
Comments (6)Would love to see what the kitchen looks like but I think if anything the lounge needs lightening and not darkening as if I'm right, you have a dining table to the right of the photo where you would have meals. Does the kitchen area open to this table and room??? Not sure what the lights are doing over the tv but I would remove them and perhaps if you want some sort of new feature or accent colour, you could paint the wall behind the tv a nice charcoal grey and hang the tv off the wall and perhaps reposition the buffet somewhere else. However, if the lounge is "brown" in keeping with the other furniture you already have, which by the way is my favourite colour, then a charcoal colour won't go well, you would have to consider perhaps a deep brown like Dulux Beauty Spot and then maybe Dulux Hog Bristle for the walls and a nice white for the ceiling. I live in the country and will have a ceiling fan (no light) in most rooms to minimize use of the AC but if you don't need it, then a nice light fitting would look better. Perhaps a few more photo's of the layout of the house would help with other readers and their opinions of what might best work for you. If the kitchen is completely seperate from the lounge, then you can be different in this room but if you love brown or timber furniture, I'm surprised you went for black and white!!...See MoreExtension - what works best with current home layout
Comments (49)Hi everyone, so... 3 years later and after many back and forth we have decided to knock down the house and rebuild. The cost of renovating was just too prohibitive and not to mention the unexpected surprises that surely would come with it. We should start the building of the new home in a month or less. Just wanted to thank everyone who helped in this thread, your opinions were very important and helped us decide. We are not doing a custom build, instead we chose one of those pre-designed homes (Dennis Family) but we are very happy and excited. Cant wait for it to be done. Will post photos when ready....See Moreworst living room ever - how can we make this work?
Comments (23)Awesome. Thanks guys. Yep - in QLD and is a very breezy home so I’m not too worried about air flow. If I get smaller furniture it would be so I could easily clean underneath and retrieve lost LEGO;) I fear that I’ve already got TV too high but if I move it I will definitely go lower - have a sore neck. And although is living room it is mostly used for TV. Kids have toy room for playing and many of our conversations happen on our dining table or outside areas. So comfort is a large consideration. Thanks everyone for your suggestions so far!...See MoreDark maroon chesterfield on white tiles?
Comments (5)I love the couch , and I think it is strong enough to be a feature on its own , but white tiles on their own can look a bit cold . Like the others , I suspect it would look like the entry foyer to a high end office building , rather than a house , so the detail items are important . A large rug , to me , is almost apologising for the tiles , and also risks being overpowering . I'd do a rug similar tones to Julies 1st pic , but depending on the room size , only maybe 1400 x 2mtrs or similar , so at least twice as much tile as rug could be seen . Without seeing your house , style , and overall look , I'd take a stab and say I'd probably match the couch with a larger , gold framed mirror on the wall -- depending on other colours in the room , that may not work , but in a neutral palette that would be my 'go-to' ....See Morejulie herbert
