Building a Home Flooring Cleaning Tips

steam clean or shampoo new carpet?

Hi, I’m getting my carpets cleaned in my new build and I reached out to two cleaners, one suggested steam cleaning and the other suggested shampooing was best for a new build. Can anyone tell me which I should go for? Thanks! (Carpet is nylon)

why do new carpets need cleaning..contact the carpet manufacturers for best advice?

Carpet guys left it filthy. Didn’t vacuum after themselves, then someone went over them with muddy boots (long story) so I just want to make sure they are pristine before we move in as it’s my little kids rooms

Can’t think of anything more disgusting than carpet in a bathroom. Impossible to keep clean and dry, particularly with a toilet in the bathroom. There is huge range of bathmats available to keep your feet warm that you can just throw in the washing machine or even timber mats you can wipe clean

@mazpt, yes of course. Here are a few more pictures showing how kitchen, living and dining, and outdoor deck and bbq area flow together. Oska kitchen is really neat in detailing; wood grain on the doors for example, are matched across as many doors as long as a 2.4m sheet allow. Floor turned out very nice too. Light natural colour, wide and long boards, laid length way all the way from front door to the back makes the space looks a bit bigger. Although it is still a floating floor, there are minimal floor movement that make squeak sound, most of the floor are feels solid. I hope that floor squeaking noise will settle over time.

I'd stay away from putting any kind of detergent on it - it might look like it's cleaned it, but then the detergent sits in the underlay and continues to attract dirt as people subsequently walk over it. I know because my sister once had a bottle of shampoo burst in her bag while sitting on the carpet - the professional carpet cleaner said detergents were the worst. I'd get a professional in.

I’d be reluctant to shampoo as it shouldn’t need a deep clean and this can add water into underlay. But I’m not really sure what diff is. I normally do either a dry clean or a steam clean.

Carpet steam cleaning is very water-based and uses steam generated by intense heat to remove and soak up the same dust and dirt as modern vacuum cleaners.

Depending on the chemical used, you may be asked to vacate the house after the chemical cleaning has been carried out, although the process of fumigating the house is very similar. Carpet cleaning consists, as the name suggests, of removing dirt and the dirt itself and requires very little water to clean roots and fabric.

Very few chemicals are used, so no precautions need to be taken and dry cleaning can tackle the problem at its root.
