I think the colour used on these cabinets is great. This is a colour which is unlikely to unsettle anyone who sees it and is teamed with very neutral walls and furnishings. This room looks modern, with a little retro or Scandinavian twist.I believe that if you really love a particular colour, why not use it as a colour block on cabinets. Just keep the main elements in the room neutral and the accent colours to a minimum, like the orange accent used here.

We have dulux whisper white cabinetry and it is lovely soft/warm but I made mistake of using non-tinted ceiling paint and even with bulkhead divide it looks too stark white (or makes cabinetry look too creamy). Since I can't change the cabinetry, I think I will eventually go over ceiling with 1/4 tint whisper white.

Read up on preparation and painting of a room, but very basically: Entire walls need to cleaned with sugar soap. You have high ceilings, so hire some ladders, make up some scaffolding, so all areas can be reached. Then preparation is the hardest part of painting. You need to fill any uneven parts of the walls, or along any spaces between walls and the wall railings and skirting boards. Use a product, called Pollyfilla. Then sand back those repairs with a light sand paper. Clean over to remove any dust. Use painters tape, a blue tape, to cover the top of the skirting boards, so wall paint does not get on them, same if you are painting picture rails a different colour. Choose the colour that will compliment your furnishings. Either one entire colour, or a different colour on the higher portion of the wall. Maybe Picture rail and skirting in a crisp white. Use a paint brush to paint all the outline of each wall, as it is easier to paint the rest of the walls with a roller. Maybe an extended roller, and standing on scaffolding. I would also remove the mantel, prepare and paint that wall, then replace mantel. This is a very basic overview.

We have used black carcasses for a black and wood kitchen. Looks great and everything is easy to find. Cost an extra $1000 on the total reno but absolutely worth it imo. The white would look cheaper especially when pulling out the black drawers to see the stark white inside. We also opted for dark drawer runners.
