Pendant light choice would usually be for a specific purpose so if you will move things around I would have a rethink. It may be possible to have a pendant with a long lead & hooks for the cord that would allow you to move it within a reasonable distance of the connection point. Maybe some general lighting might work better e.g. or two or three directional spotlights along edges or the ridge line & on dimmers if possible. Subtle strip lighting at the top of the grey wall & the addition of a feature decorative wall hanging & potted plants would look nice too.

It might be worth while to consider the rest of the space also. Your breakfast bar/kitchen is located quiet closely to your dining table so depending on your kitchen space (apologies, I can't see too much of your kitchen from the photo) you might want to think about the overall style you want to achieve for you entire open plan space, and select pendants that would work for both your kitchen and dining. This is a project I worked on recently that shows how two different types of pendants can work harmoniously in the one space that is most similar to your kitchen and dining set up. Hi Sarah, I would go with a large rug in the lounge- if you can get all four feet of the couch on it as well as the tv cabinet it will create a clear ‘lounge room’ zone. This will be a costly rug due to the size. You can choose a piece of carpet that you like and have it cut and edged to create a customised rug if your own. Adding a large pendant over the dining table will mark this as another separate zone. I am personally not a fan of pendant lights over the island, I just think they add clutter to the space and have been overused - I’m sure many will disagree. You can have another row of down lights over the island if you need task lighting there and add led lighting under your overheads at the back as an accent light that will create a soft wash of light down the splash back. Finally ( even though you didn’t ask!) the white powerpoint to the front of your island stands out agains the black and works against it, swapping this for a black outlet will help make it disappear.

I think the light suits the design , and agree that 2 would look better -- the problem you have now though is that , even if you connect the wiring together for both lights ( so the existing wiring is all that is needed ) , is that you will need 2 new holes in the ceiling ( that top fitting covers them ) BUT you will end up with a hole where the existing wire comes through . On a new build , if you fill it , or even cut out a larger square and get a whole new cut-to-size panel in there and plaster and paint , its possible you'll see the different paint colours , and possibly the filler shrinks or gets a little dimple . Its do-able , but its time consuming ( $$$ ) to get it correct now . In other words , it will be at least in the $100's , so how much do you want 2 lights ?
