Design Dilemma Fireplaces

Help with size of fireplace for 4.8m wall

We are planning for an insert fireplace to go along a wall that will be approx 4.8m long. The room is open family/dining/kitchen. The plan currently has the fireplace in the corner, but we intend to change that on the plan so it is in the middle. The TV will go to the right of the fireplace and open shelving to the left. What is the biggest insert fireplace you think could fit this space?

which size fireplace you choose will need to be decided by the available fireplaces to suit your needs (ie heating capacity, fuel, location of flue, overhead beams etc) so i'd start with the fireplace insert and then work all the other details from that..but, you should add scale sized furniture and suitable walking paths to the room so that the seating is angled to suit the view, the tv and the fire and you might find that the alcove with the bulkhead could be a better location for the TV and/or fireplace and storage wall

i'd like some feedback on the two windows, as I am currently looking at the same thing without windows. Why r they there given the expanse of glass on other wall. My mum had two narrow vertical windows either side and as they were un curtained they look like black rectangles at night which I found spooky. They didn't let in much light because of trees outside, but I guess if u had a skyline view say they may be useful. They also compromised positioning of artwork.

I would suggest hanging a large moroccan woven fabric or mat, just use a length of dowel along the top edge, and hang it up. It would add great texture and also a casual feel to the room. Dress up the couch with a bunch of patterned cushions and a bolster moroccan style. Thank you everyone for your great comments. There were design ideas I had never thought of and really valued like the floating shelf, a mural and larger cushions and changing the colour of the lamp shade. Attached is the latest room version. I have moved paintings around. I do love this aboriginal painting, I am not sure if it is a little small but I'd really like it above the couch so perhaps another complimentary painting beside it? Or do you think it works ok? I think I can pretty much choose any colour from the painting for cushions and to brighten up the space - was thinking brighter and larger like suggested above by littlethommo2 and littlethommo2 . I still think I have balance/scale to work on - thank you Paul Di Stefano Design and littlethommo2 . I can move the cupboard at the end of the couch with the plant on it and place something taller here ? Any further ideas are really appreciated. Thank you all !

I probably wouldn't rush into relocating the fireplace to the centre of the wall. It looks like you have an asymmetrical space, so keeping it centred is not that crucial. As oklouise said you should make some decisions about the focal points of the room. Is it the fireplace, TV, or view? By adding your furniture to scale in the plan you will soon be able to work out the best options for TV and fireplace positions.
