It looks like it was derived from the "Sydney School" but the brickwork is not typical of this style. Perhaps the best-known builders of this style were "Pettit and Seviitt" who built over 3000 homes in this style in the eastern states Australia. They were very successful so a lot of other builders copied this style. Yours is not a Pettit and Sevitt home but has some similar features. Many of them were completed in white painted bagged brickwork with dark contrasting timber, which may suit your home.

I think your home is a 1970's build home. In perth there are a lot of double brick similar built homes from mid to late 1970's.
I have found this Melbourne renovation, which, in my opinion keeps the integrity of the original home.

Classic 1970's build. You can tone down the bricks by painting the trim in a contrast. Gutters, railings, windows all painted in a nice cool contrast colour normally does well with these hot, dark brick colours. I notice you have aluminium windows but these homes look much nicer with timber windows and doors. Actually these homes can look quite good once done up and there is nothing particularly ugly about it's overall dimensions or shape, it's just the colour scheme is out of date. It helps if you re-roof in a contemporary colorbond too. The joy of these homes is that the layout and room sizes are usually very good and work well with modern living.

Thank you very much for all your thoughts!! I do like that Melbourne renovation a lot, and would certainly like to replace the aluminium with wooden windows, a much preferred look. It also seems a lot of house from that era have been painted white and Keep the dark trims and roof tiles.
