I wish to thanks those that have replied. I need the information on a "look a like" wall fire place, that looks like flame but is no heat. I have found a you tube that shows using a dvd player in a screen in a false opening that replicates a fire. I would like a commercially made item, and also the information to contact the company.

I would engage a lighting designer, or get one of the Beacon lighting designers to help you with those glary spotlights. Your proposed lighting plan looks like a builder's dumb-down approach to lighting, and is commonly used in display homes to feature the home, but can be quite challenging to live with. There are so many other choices that will add warmth and character and more options to how you use those rooms. Nothing worse than the glare and reflection on a TV screen from ceiling downlights. Consider wall sconces, standard lamps, concealed LED strips in cabinetwork, and pendants to give you more flexibility and better quality lighting that is more suited to the use of the spaces, with less car showroom ambience. Keep the intense lights to your kitchen task areas such as benchtops, and some consideration to side lighting your shaving mirror. Your downlight above your bathroom vanity is only good for cleaning it, and it will cast deep shadows on your face when shaving or doing make-up (and add ten years to your age in the mirror). I agree with me me, attach the stop to the door. Place it exactly where you need on the door. Close to the hinge would work. We have an external door, which we wanted to stop from hitting the rendered external brick frame. We put the stop on the bottom of the door. Works perfectly.

I would get the installation instructions for the fireplace you’re planning on having. They are usually available online and will have information on the surrounding construction required. Builders often have a reluctance to do something new, but they are also the one that has to build and warranty the work. You need to negotiate a position that you’re both happy with. If this column is just plasterboard and is just a cosmetic design feature it shouldn’t be that expensive. If the heater is installed as supported from the construction above rather self supporting from the base it may be a reasonable cost.
