bollie440, I spent literally years drawing up my plans for a new home, which is still underway and also incorporated wheelchair access where possible including a stepless shower. This included lots of research and googling and I am relatively happy with the home as it will turn out but when it comes to a reno, it's so different, just a little more here and a little less there could give you another room or extra storage. With everything you have planned, I would invest in the help of a designer/decorator who will make sure you get the best out of your design and style. It will cost you to hire someone but mistakes or not taking advantage of things you might not otherwise think of, would be worse and most of all dissapointing. How many times do youy hear someone say: "I wish I'd have known I could do that or thought of that"!!!.

I agree with jmm1837 and builders and designers are now realising that clients are spending more of their hard earned cash on clothes and require space to look after their dresses, skirts, suits, shoes bags etc. The key rule for built in or walk in robes is to be able to see and reach everything in your wardrobe. Wardrobe design is very different to kitchen design and it is worth investing in a professional wardrobe designers service to get maximum use of space. If you choose a Reach in or Built in wardrobe the doors are the main feature and make a statement in the room therefore style and finish is very important. If you choose hinged doors make sure you have enough room to open them, sliding doors take up less space. A professional wardrobe designer will work with you to custom design the internal fit out of the built in robe, how much half hang, full hang or 3/4 hanging you need, shoe storage and how many drawers you require. i guess the great thing about the ikea system is the doors of the metod system are going to be around for a long time (at least another 20 years if the warranty is anything to go by, and how long the previous faktum system was around). so super easy to replace if anything was to happen to one of the doors. the carcasse quality may well be better from a custom cabinet maker, yes, i agree. the ikeas dont have solid backs (i dont think so anyway, i can barely remember). but personally, the ikea stuff seems fine, when i open a cupboard stuff all looks the same to me, as long as my shelfs havent collapsed i am happy. and the backs are up against the wall so I dont see much downside. its strong enough to hold up my stone bench top.. so i dont see how it could be seen as flimsy.
