dining room styling advice
we are looking into finally finishing our dining space after 3 years of living in our home, we are open to removing the print and changing the orientation, the heater will need to stay on the right wall because of where our gas point is. we are also thinking of getting a buffet
any help or advice would be greatly appreciated

Comments (12)I might be a bit late to the party, but have you thought about putting the TV on the long wall and the lounge facing the tv, creating a bit more of an entrance way? 3 years agoHi, my suggestion is to position your dining table and chairs, length ways. Buffet would be good on far wall, with a much lighter, in colour, painting above buffet. Maybe a tall plant in the corner to soften the room. Centre piece on the table. The table can be brought out further, to be in line with passage wall, instead of being in the corner. You have enough room for a 2000mm long table, 6-8 chairs and buffet on far wall. As this is a designated dining room, a centred light pendant over the table would also look good.

3 years agoPersonally I would match the wood. Your current table and chairs are giving a bit of an industrial vibe. Maybe stick with that theme.

3 years agolast modified: 3 years agoI would get rid of furniture with thin steel legs. In a room with a large expanse of hard flooring, those little legs end up looking like a canteen more than a dining room. You need something with a bit of presence to take the attention away from the big tiles. They are not a feature tile so they need to recede into the background and let the furniture shine.
You see how the upholstered chairs and thicker legs on this table make what is really a very austere space come to life. Get yourself a nice pendant and in that room I would actually build some open shelving across the back wall with a contrast wall colour behind it. You can then install some discreet LED downlights in the nooks for a stunning effect at night.
With the heater staying where it is you definately need something large, high and eye catching to draw the eye there and to the table setting rather than to the heater.
