Personally I’d steer away from the blue base on paint the whole room in the lighter of the 3. Def extend curtains whole length of wall.

I think a wallpaper would look awesome to tone in with your kitchen. I’d be inclined to hang curtains on both sides from ceiling height and extending longer

Do you think the curtains should go over the window with the shutters too? Remain right-stacked?

Amber, can you post a few pics of your kitchen? Various angles and light, so we can 'see' the colour of it? I think since the kitchen is the 'balance' of the whole room (i.e. heavy other end) you need to work off it / with it (unless you plan on a major change of it too?)

You should start with your fabric selection before deciding on one of the thousands of paint colours available.
Ideally the curtains should stack back off the window - the window/wall measurements along with fabric/lining selection style, hardware, and curtain style will all come into play to help achieve this.

I agree with Decoro Custom Interiors, work out what you are doing with the curtains and select your fabric first. I would extend the curtain rod into the corner so that the curtains can be pulled all the way back into the corner. Your current curtain doesn't look wide enough to cover that whole window?

Think carefully about introducing a feature wall as I think that the fashion for feature walls has well and truly passed. The problem with your wall is that you have a door, with architraves and a white light switch in your feature wall, which waters down the visual strength and they both strongly contrast with your choice of paint colours.

In addition it is always tricky for a feature wall to finish perfectly on an external plasterboard corner and get the edging perfect. It looks like this corner will be highly visible from your living area, and if it is not perfect it will really annoy you! Feature walls always work best as a solid block of colour without "holes" in it and painted between two internal corners so it is "framed" by the adjacent walls.

Thank you all - was hoping to paint the wall behind the curtains too all the way up to the kitchen edge as the room is very dull, fairly large. Reluctant to paint the entire room one colour as I have an air con unit which I want to blend in to the wall.

there are two windows. large window has sliding door. Then a seperate window next to that with shutters.

Since the kitchen is a block solid and heavy blue, I feel you need to work off that like your short listed painted samples. Or, as suggested, maybe a wallpaper. The curtains etc break up up, so needs to work with them? or will you get new curtains too.

Your furniture decor has the same look which is good. What if you pick a colour and bring it into a floor rug, table runner, cushions on lounge, rug in lounge (different rugs, but similar tones, style)...

I'm not sure of your budget or intent? How far do you want to go?

I'm not sure painting alone will "lift" the whole room. If you wanted to try it, no major cost, pick one of those samples, paint the walls you want and see how you feel.

I suspect it needs a 'lift' colour into the overall decor and not just the wall painted. How far down the rabbit hole do you want to go?
