Plantation Shutters or Blinds
Comments (3)Hi Bradley, firstly what a beautiful home you have developed. As a window covering professional, I would pose you a number of questions before giving any advice. So firstly consider what the room is being used for (it may seem obvious to you - but everyone is different), secondly what is the style/concept/mood you are attempting to pull together, thirdly what obstacles are present in the window. All these items a Window treatment specialist would review with you prior to making suggestions. Of course - lastly, what is your budget. To give an example - in the bedroom- you may need it to have a total block out facility for sleep, (Plantation Shutters wont provide total block), or maybe you want to highlight the view (Plantation Shutters are for closing it off), and as you have mentioned - you would have to mount it onto the architraves (would look unprofessional if you stuck up plantation shutters over the archs) and getting to the sash windows would be difficult to open and close the shutters. In your case (my opinion only!) I would look at Roman Blinds for the bedroom (Face Fix above the windows, and over the window architraves ), perhaps with a sheer behind to filter the view, still giving you filtered light during the day - but providing privacy. In the other rooms a roman blind is also applicable (again because of your sash windows face mounted and covering the Archs when closed.) There is a lot to consider - so recommend getting some help! Comments (12)Assuming all your windows are similar in height to the one in the picture ( taller than they are wide ) I'd personally do just 2 panels . If you really wanted , you could even ask for a solid 'narrow beam' down the middle so they look almost like 4 sections . If you hinge them twice , and have 4 sections across each window , it will be quite fiddly , and maybe this makes me lazy , but why purposely make something that needs 3 or 4 fastenings at the top , another 3 or 4 at the base , and special holders to hold them firm when they are opened . Wide plantation blinds , with a catch each side , is all it needs ....See MorePlantation shutters
Comments (3)I installed plantation shutters from UBlinds about 6 years ago and the shutters have been great; they still look brand new. I installed 2 more plantation shutters this year, after completing a Reno. I used UBlinds again as I was happy with my previous dealings with them....See Moreplantation shutter with roller blind
Comments (11)The trouble is they are bifold shutter doors, I think, you haven’t said whether they are or not. Therefore roller blinds will have to be secured into the wall above the frame of shutters, giving enough room for the blind mechanism to work correctly, and enough room for the shutters doors to be “bi folded”. If you hardly use that door and will only put the blinds down at night time with the bifold closed, then yes, install them. You could encase the roller blinds mechanism in a pelmet to hide. But again that pelmet needs to finished above the doors. Therefore Roman blinds would not work, because they do not retract completely. Unless you had them secured very high on the wall....See MoreIrene Morresey
