I am struggling to find any pictures of where someone has the shower fittings higher than their shower screen to see how odd it actually would look like. One of my 101 learnings about getting the wrong tradesperson to "project manage" my bathroom renovation (until he went MIA), was not voicing louder to the plumber's assistant who actually did the shower connections, that what the "project manager" had suggested for heights of shower connections was way too high. I had actually double-checked it on the previous weekend with a friend and we both thought that it needed to be lowered by 100-150 mm, but when I said this to the "project manager" he ignored me as did the plumber assistant who made the connections....I know how a handheld shower only (which is all I wanted) fitting that is at 2070mm in one bathroom and 2020mm in the other bathroom. As there is no shower rail (because I wanted things to look simple), I get my daily stretches just to reach the handheld shower.....I am happy with the progress of my bathroom, except for all of the stuffups caused by this particular "tradesperson/project manager". We live and learn....I can't do anything about what has happened, but can only minimise the impact where possible and learn from all the things that went wrong, if there is ever a next time. I should make a list of the learnings once bathroom is finished.

It actually looks like it was designed for a shower screen that was never installed, maybe because they ran out of money towards the end of the job? Frameless shower screens look fantastic when you can afford to put one in when you are renovating or building a new bathroom. Usually frameless shower screens have their anchoring points or recessed channels installed before tiling. It is actually quite tricky to retrofit a frameless shower screen neatly where there are existing tiles as the junction between the two materials needs to be watertight, and there may be uneveness in the tiles. You don't want to penetrate the waterproof membrane that is under the tiles with a retrofitted fixing for a frameless shower screen. I would suggest a semi-frameless screen which has a steel channel at the junction between the glass and the tiles which will be easier to keep clean, provide better support for the glass, and not be reliant on a silicone bead (which often goes mouldy in a shower recess). I would not have it longer than a metre as you will need at least 600mm clear to access the toilet. Extend it to the ceiling (see photo above) for better rigidity. Don’t use bar soap as the talc in it which is main culprit. I also have bore water with large amount of minerals so I use a windscreen repellant every six months and squeegee the screen after every shower. It’s held up well for 2.5 years.

Maybe not enough silicon between channel and glass BUT you need to call the installer and have them take a look at it. Silicon takes at least 24hrs to cure so it may not have been dry enough to use - did you give it a test poke? Also if you use the shower and bump the glass before it totally dries you’ll cause a gap through which water will leak.
