Although maybe hidden a little better. M reason for mentioning this, as stainless kickers are an early 90's thing, and will prematurely date the kitchen. I have designed kitchens for around 10 years now, and while they have a place, as in you want to tie into your stainless appliances then go for it. I would just consider your options first. The positive is that they will coordinate with an kitchen, however with a white kitchen, they may take some attention that the kitchen itself deserves. Try to create something in your kitchen unique to your layout, and that is long lasting enough to enhance your own aesthetic. Kitchens with personality usually have quirks from the owner, and this may well be one of them for you. My only reasoning is that I wouldn't want you to just do it as the cabinetmaker has been doing this for several years now. White get dirty, so does stainless, they both get mopped, and the stainless actually has a scribes surface which I know is harder to get the dirt out of. We used this in showrooms, and know from experience that flat standard laminate is far easier to clean that stainless kicker, regardless of the colour. Ask your joiner for a piece of laminate and stainless kicker, feel them for yourself. They often use HPL, high pressure laminate to make kickers, and not often LPM, low pressure melamine, as the HPL is far more durable. The joiner can explain th difference, or atleast know that you have looked into it....See MoreToo much space either side of fridge?

There is now a sliding scale of reasonable expectation on consumer items which means manufacturers will rely on their tech specs more than ever. Check what minimum clearance your fridge officially needs on the sides and above the machine for ventilation before doing anything. Get your lighting working for you. Choose a 'warm white' lamp - not daylight or cool white. Cool whites kill off the warmer hues and makes things appear cold. Change, add or move your lighting to have two small gimbled ceiling lights wash down the face of the joinery instead of one bright light focussed on the fridge. Lighting can make a poor space look great or a great space look poor....See MoreNeed to tweek the outside of our new home we are to build
Comments (32)Great house design! I️ like the arches in the drawing rather than the 3D render however I️ don’t think that’s the only thing going on. The staircase leading up to it looks really heavy and narrow. I️ feel like the house is getting squeezed and it’s holding its breath! The rest of the design is clearly anchored into the site but the combo of tight rigid staircase, high arches and the vertical exposed bricks mean the front is out of proportion. Maybe make sure the arches are “wider” as per the drawing and perhaps the staircase walls are timber like the rest and I️ think the squeeze effect I️ see will be relaxed. I️ really hope this makes sense because when I️ read it back it sounds mad!...See MoreHow much space is required to open fridge doors?
Comments (10)Hi Claire, our fridge is exactly 912 wide too - maybe the one you like is from the same range? Mine is an LG 4 door (712 litre). Anyway, I can tell you that this fridge has to have a minimum clearance each side of 20mm, so overall minimum space is 952, so your space of 930 would not be sufficient, and that's not addressing the need to open the door yet. I worked out it needs 400mm on each side to open the doors fully (a lot I know!). This could be a continuation of bench space or open space, but not a wall. We are about to renovate, and as oklouise can attest to, had many a design dilemma in trying to find a good position for the fridge! (I ended up adding 800mm to the extension!) French door fridges are very appealing, but I think you would find that appeal fades very quickly with the annoyance of trying to get at the fruit/veg drawer on that side. In practical terms, a single fridge door that opens away from the wall would make life easier....See MoreKate
