Awkward bathroom shape any layout advice?
Comments (12)Hi Sandi! The reason why I did two is because the vanity will be a feature vanity (marble etc) and I wanted that to be the very first thing you see as you enter and I wanted the toilet to only be visible after you enter the room. I also don't want the entry way to the shower to be the their thing you see because I wanted it to look like a powder room (i don't have one) without seeing the shower behind. These two cupboard combined are 1.6m of linen cupboard and we have a small linen cupboard near our bedroom as well so I think that's probably enough for us. We currently have a 1m linen cupboard and don't need any extra space. (We live on acreage and have 2 x four car garages) and there will be storage room under this house as well. But I completely understand your concern with not enough linen cupboard. I hated that when we lived in an inner city unit....See MoreNew bathroom design - share ideas!
Comments (9)Hi Evee, How about something like this? It would give you a very roomy bathroom, with everything you'd need. You could, alternatively, put the toilet where the towel rail is, and put the towel rail behind the shower door, which would give you space for a storage unit behind the bathroom door; but stepping out of the shower to face the loo might not be very attractive! Also, anyone walking into the bathroom won't immediately see anyone on the loo, as it's behind the door. I know there could be a fair bit of plumbing reorganisation, but I think that, no matter what you do, that will be the case. I think it would be worth the investment for a really functional and beautiful bathroom, though. Oh, and don't forget to put in a couple of double power outlets at the vanity - there always seems to be too few in most people's bathrooms. I hope this helps. And I agree with OKLouise about shopping around for bargains and second hand or re-purposed units. New things seem to cost the earth these days, but you save heaps this way, and you can use your money for plumbing and electrical. Good luck! Would love to see a picture of the finished product....See MoreHouse too big, kitchen design, bathroom design etc etc
Comments (16)oklouise thanks for the ideas. We have actually really thought about the zoning. We want the two bedrooms on the southern side with a bathroom between for privacy. We also want the eastern lounge room to pop out as a dining room in that spot will waste a gorgeous view. We had a straight alfresco and thought it was all a bit hohum. I will attach the first and second drafts to see where we have come from. The first draft we had drawn was too boring for us ... Garry hated draft 2 as he thought it was too wide for solar access and didn't give cross ventilation (north to south or vv). It's only positive was the flow of west/east cross ventilation. Also the bathroom was too tucked away for guest use when we are using that nice alfresco area. We quickly scrapped all those ideas... LOL As I said, we like skillion roof lines and are planning on clerestory windows to maximise northern sun. Some raked ceilings will probably happen too (and definitely 9 foot ceilings in living areas). the mudroom/laundry will probably be incorporated into the hallway. Unlike some on this forum previously I don't object to entering through the laundry. It kind of gives a landing spot for groceries from the car on those cold days you don't want to leave the whole house open. The garage may actually be a carport to ensure we can have ventilation come through that way and to help us with budget....See MoreDesign of bathrooms
Comments (24)nothing i like better than separate bedrooms and well rested happy mornings...in the overall expense of a whole new house the extra few metres of pipe is not the major cost that everyone worries about (all the fixtures and tiles cost the same!!) and my laundry plumbing is designed for placement of the door to the porch and the placement of the other bathroom plumbing is to have the hall doors positioned symmetrically to allow better use of the hallway wall for some bookshelves or small desk to enjoy this sunny winter space ....but do prefer to keep plumbing close to save unnecessary expense so would you like separate bathrooms or an ensuite with dual access or do you prefer to keep the extra bathroom for visitors and, keep in mind what you want to store and we can plan the storage to fit the stuff (is the double linen cupboard for towels and sheets that can be stored in the vanity cabinets or is the storage for other stuff that needs a specific sized storage space?...See MoreKate
