@ Amanda Cullity....I love all the different 'likes and dislikes' on the Houzz forums....quite surprising the different things that appeal to people. On revisiting this discussion I've changed my mind...and now I don't like either, how about that for weird!? Honestly, if this were my place and I had to make this decision Yellow or Pink today, a good few months down the track from when I voted PINK... I would not know what to choose between these two options. Did you paint the roof with the yellow in it as well? Maybe the photos don't do the house justice. At this point, your having painted the house YELLOW to "tone down all the pink"....I feel its still too much of the one colour. Maybe, contraty to what Rene says, keep the blue pots and put a few more of these around but in a paler colour blue, and maybe a couple of blue accents on the house itself. It has a very distinctive style so you'd need to be careful, it would be so easy to lose its character with the incorrect chouce of accent colour. The YELLOW seems also very warm so maybe try much lighter hues of blue violet pots and for a cool accent on the facade itself. To me it looks like too much of a big block of solid colour....wonder what a couple of blue violet trellises would do if they were placed against the house in the spaces between the windows with the window frames in the same hue? Might break up the "blocK look. I'm no architect but have a lot of experience with colour. This is a diffifcult one expecially going on photos only.. The suggested " trellises" would be just an experiement and if liked could be made into something more permanent. Have you see some of that decorative laser cut-out panelling in metal" Something like that might soften the "block" look. As this is an old trhead, I suppose, Amanda, that you've made some changes of your own. Would you share with us?

Keeping your colour temperature consistent makes the light flow from one room to another, however I do agree with the others above to create a more relaxed and ambient feel you would need to use warm white. However, if you have fallen in love with 4000k then stick to that! You don't need to keep your floor lamps and table lamps consistent with 4000k as you may want to opt for a lower colour temperature for these to create a more intimate setting. When buying LED downlights be sure to consider the price against what you are getting, new units should be complete with frame, globe and driver attached with a flex and plug these are easy for installation and usually come with a min, 2 year warranty. Don't forget it's also a great idea to separate your lights into different circuits if you feel that turning on all the lights will be too intense. This allows you complete control over the amount of light output by turning on different switches, plus with dimmers you will master the perfect lighting for every occasion. My last point would be to test the downlight out before purchasing all the lights for your home, if you are still hesitant about what colour you want to go for purchase 1 unit to test out - most are attached to flex and plug so you can just plug it into a powerpoint to test. We have done all of the downstairs open plan area in Caspar white quarter. Skirts done in same colour in gloss with vivid white ceiling & cornice. We had a4 samples of 4 Dulux whites: Snowy Mountains 1/2, white exchange 1/2, white polar 1/4. Moved the samples to every room with hubby & wrote down which we preferred. Tried them in north and south rooms in day and night light. CW1/4 was hands down the favourite. It looks great - crisp & clean with no blue, we love it. Photos were taken at night. Hope this helps.

Are you sure the roof is stainless steel?? That is VERY expensive and only used in very exposed corrosive coastal locations since it lasts forever. I think it might be Zincalume, a low cost but very durable and very common roofing material that has a light silvery surface and should last for 50 years. Definitely do NOT paint the roof black (or any dark colour), it would add more than 10° to the internal heat load, and you would have to spend so much more on insulation and on-going AC costs just to get back to where you are now. Have the roof checked and repaired by a roof plumber instead. If it's an old leaky galvanised iron roof at the end of it's days, replace it with zincalume. The porch roof looks like it needs replacing, but I would replace it with new roofing, possibly the insulated sandwich panel kind, that has a smooth white underside, then add a gutter to the front edge so you don't make your visitors walk under a waterfall in the rain. The canvas awning suggested earlier would not last as long without looking tired and would require the removal of existing roof structure, so I think it would be the more costly option (and you would still have the waterfall problem). I would leave the front fence as is, it ties in nicely with the house, but trim the tree. The back deck could easily be roofed to match the front, and be more useful to tenants with weather protection. It would be good to make all trim colours the same, and against the cream brick I think the dark grey you have on the front door and columns works quite well. I would make the other windows and trim, as well as the weatherboards over the back door match that if it just involves painting. However, it's not essential and if it means changing powdercoat finishes it would be too costly to be worthwhile in a rental.
