Nothing to do with the laundry , but the design of the bathroom 'tucking' around the back of the kitchen is clever !

Back to your dilema -- two questions or maybe thoughts ? There looks to be quite a lot of shelf or cupboard space in the kichen proper -- could this be re-arranged or maybe started again , to include a pantry , even if it isn't walk-in -- then the laundry wouldn't feel as crowded ?

Or how difficult would it be to extend the laundry wall 'up' so that it is in line with the kitchen and dining ? That would give you more space , a more conventional look from outside too , but that may spoil some of the character and/or if the walls are load bearing or brick or hard to match then the cost may be prohibitive .

But I'd start enquiring with experts along those lines ( or maybe you have already ) before I started thinking about modifying 'inwards' , especially if it involves removing walls or pillars ?

Would you be able to post photos of the kitchen itself?

My first thought would be to make the laundry independent, and incorporate the pantry back into the kitchen. However, the kitchen does look pretty tight due to the refrigerator(?) being in the middle of the layout. Maybe I'm misreading it.

so fridge isn't exactly as it is on plan but there's is a wall there. they decided to move it to the right along wall. we did enquire about extending under roof line but would need approvals and plans and builder was talking a lot of $ for a tiny bit of space. we've had two architects say immediately that they'd remove the wall between kitchen and bedroom but im not convinced. Pretty keen to have similar a r layout but put pantry in kitchen. could refit linen cupboard near bedrooms but might not be very practical.

can you include dimensions of the kitchen, laundry and family rooms..the measurements could be shown around the edges of the plan and how do you use the family room?

so family toom is used as a second sitting/TV area. we have dining and lounge in next room but we like somewhere to sit in kitchen even if at counter. laundry is 1545 x 1805mm, kitchen 3838 x 2445 family 4040 x 4750mm. we are happy to extend beyond the 2445 depth a little. thanks for your interest. One possible option. I’ve put laundry along the wall dividing the bedroom zone. Put it behind sliding doors. I’ve included an island for circulation

thanks so much Kate. never thought of that. we're on a slab so plumbing could be issue but that backs on to bathroom so could work.

my suggestion would be to move the pantry out of the laundry, move the laundry door and change to a cavity slider so that the kitchen has two distinct Lshaped work areas and more floor space so several people can use the kitchen at the same time, entry door to the family room is also moved and changed to a cavity slider to make space for tall pantry and other storage cabinets that still allows space for a lounge ...subject to kitchen window the wall cabinets are rearranged, MW is stacked with a WO next to the fridge and there's space between the wall oven and cooktop for an appliance area away from the island and sink..the island is big enough for serving and eating and the support pole is reduced to a minimum or removed altogether..the kids should now be able to load the dishwasher, raid the pantry and/or the fridge without encroaching on the cook

where are the windows and what width and height off the floor and what is w/w and flipping the return makes traffic paths even more challenging

yes good point. sorry was meant to be microwave. not sure measurements of windows but the start just after the return. thinking this maybe good option but with shorter island.

if you want to use the rest of the family room for seating and a TV area you must include all the scale sized furniture to understand where you will have enough space to walk around comfortably
