I don't think your current kitchen plan is going to work. Your current kitchen plan may end up a bit tight... how much space between the open dishwasher or oven and the opposite cupboards? I estimate that to be 40-50cm... I think you may end up with a one person kitchen. No need for a big pantry. 2c.... keep the toilet where it is. keep the study where it is. Draw a horizontal line across from your existing toilet wall and chop a big chunk off the living space (or what was the formal dining). The new space is your butlers pantry. Slide the entry door to the right by 60-90cm. Your new butlers pantry is 3.2x2.2m. Put your sink against the toilet wall - and the dishwasher. You have easy access for plumbing with the WC utilities. Then you just need a small sink in the kitchen next to the stove for filtered water and washing your vegies etc. Put your fridge against the toilet wall too... and plumb that in. Because by the money you save you can get a fancy new french door fridge with a cold water tap on it...

I took your advice because it makes sense (I'll post a photo of our new plan) I think it's lovely that you and your husband still do dishes together, I quite enjoy doing the dishes actually, but not when my toddler is stuck on my leg. Dishwasher will probably used when we have guests over. It's actually my husband who was sold on the idea of butler's pantry but I couldn't justify it and see the point that's why I posted on here to hopefully see from other's perspective so thank you. We are a young family so always taking the kids into consideration when planning the house. We also entertain a lot, Filipino buffet style, so an island will be perfect! I sew a lot and need a big space for cutting fabric as well that's also why we wanted to keep the island without the sink. We plan to put a barn door as pantry door but we might do that later on after we have moved in and see how it goes or we might even leave it without a door but we will make sure they put in extra support in those walls for possible barn door. We abandoned the idea of window inside the pantry because I figured it will let a lot of sunlight especially it's facing north east and not good for food storage obviously. The only dilemma I have now is whereto place our microwave and deep shelving solutions for the pantry but we're pretty happy with this now. Thank you all

ask local council for setbacks but unless the distance from the side of the house to the side fence is at least 2m it's not worth extending sideways and very expensive for little return a you would also need to lose some of the existing kitchen to create an entry...Kate's internal changes make more sense for the bathroom improvements but you're talking about a new kitchen, bathroom and laundry for which you would need at east $40-$50,000 without any unexpected surprises and i'm wondering why the ens and laundry were arranged as shown as there seems to be enough space for a much better arrangement..i suspect that there may have been existing small rooms with internal brick walls including the wall between dining, kitchen and family that will make any improvements challenging .. there doesn't seem to be any room for expansion towards the back and also seems to be a shared driveway so..unless the house is in a fabulous area at a bargain price (including at least $50,000 for modest improvements, i would look elsewhere

Hi Jimb Omm, I agree that you don't need a really deep pantry for it to be efficient. 400-500mm is pretty much all you need for the largest items and drawers below eye height can be made shallower than standard to give you access to all small items so you aren't reaching behind things to what you need. I would not bother moving a wall for the pantry. Seems an expensive option for little benefit. Door from hall to laundry is a great solution as most laundry comes from the bedrooms and bathroom. Are you not renovating the whole kitchen?? If not, you could also store crockery and other items used in the dining room in the old pantry nearest the dining room such as place mats, table cloths, if you use them and cutlery etc. Irregularly used items store up high such as table decorations for christmas, platters etc. This can easily be combined with a coffee/drinks area.
