Transplanting a cactus from a pot to the ground?

I have a potted cactus that has grown to over 2m tall at my work - I love it so much but hate the it's just at work and i'd rather enjoy it at home. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with cacti and what's the best way replanting them.

I'm concerned about the soil and aspect of the sun (i'm on the Gold Coast - currently the cactus is in a shady outdoor position which it seems to like, but if I plant it at home, it will get morning-noon sun, and then shade in the afternoon). Is it wise to plant a cactus from a pot to the ground? Should I just repot it into a larger pot instead? Is cactus/succulent soil the best to use, or should I be getting a mix of something better that will aid in the cactus growing nicely once transplanted? Is it something that is ok to do on your own, or should I be getting a landscaper to to it?

So many things to consider, not least how to move the bloody thing in the first place! It's a bit of a beast but luckily isn't a spiky one...
