Love the white windows. We've nearly finished a major renovation of a 1950s Queenslander-esque house, and we agonised over the colour scheme. We found ourselves driving around the suburbs snapping photos of colour schemes we liked, and then analysed what it was we liked about each. We especially liked the look of white windows with medium coloured walls, and then a darker trim. We're thrilled with our final choices, which were Zincalume roof (shiny silver in colour), chamferboards in Dune (Colorbond colour - mid beige with a hint of grey), which really made our white windows pop. Gutters, hand rails and timber battens around base of house in Deep Ocean (Colorbond colour), a dark blue. Garage door and front door are white. Greys would also look great, a mid colour for your chamferboards, and darker for the gutters, lower half of the house and trim. Whatever colour scheme you settle on, I would especially focus on replacing or disguising the white wall material around the lower half of the house. A darker colour is more traditional, as are battens. Even painting the existing white walls will make a big difference. In the photo I've added, rendered fence and garage door surround are still to be painted Dune, white picket fence panels to be added. Due to a sloping block, battens around stumps are only visible from the sides and back of house. Click on the photo to see more of the roof/ paint scheme. I would remove those two knobs on the railing at the bottom of the stairs, otherwise the railing would be OK and I would paint that a medium grey. I would paint any window frames a light grey which will tone in with the aluminium and the guttering a dark grey. I would also paint those two big gates at the side dark grey to draw attention away from them or get a new remote controlled gate, depending on finances. The verandah surface will need more and I would tile that with a tile that looks like timber in a weathered wood colour that has greyed. All this grey will tone down the red and orangey colour of the exterior and the tiles will stand up to the weather even though they look like wood. If you remove the hedge you might find more than you bargained for, but I would wait until the rest is done and then rethink the landscaping because the look will be different.

What a cute house!

A couple of comments have noted the front 'blue' pole is not an 'architectural feature', which, 100% agreed, on it's own it's not really. However, it's not the only 'blue' pole or current 'blue' highlight feature! For understanding / reference, here's a couple of pictures of out the back. There is an 'upper deck' off the back and a 'lower deck' (these pictures taken as the new lower timber deck was completed) which have the 'blue' poles and highlights: Another angle of the back, which also shows the 'side' deck area which also has the 'blue' poles and highlight: And, for understanding, here's another angle of the side deck looking back into the yard: We like how the 'blue' sort of 'cascades' down off the roof ATM, and have therefore been looking at using the same 'style' by replacing the 'blue' with Windspray. Also, FWIW, we have also been debating the use of 'white' in the color scheme. As some of you have noted, the 'poles' or 'window trim' or even the 'fascia' could be white to give some contrast to the Surfmist cladding. It's not out of the running as yet! But, we do like the 'blue' and feel we'll like the "cascade" of Windspray. We've tried the Wattyl virtual painter but it doesn't seem to like our roof angle and will not 'paint' the roof! So, ATM we're looking at running it through photoshop, or since we have other renovation plans in mind, we've been playing around with drawing it up in SketchUp. We managed to find all the colorbond colours in Hex, RGB, CYMK etc so we can dial in the colors in any software.
