i need help with renovating our front facade
Comments (15)hi Adrian and Erin, now that looks flash! and it is amazing the difference the small things make! we will certainly look at this and Erin, tks so much for the photo. Do you think the new square posts holding up the veranda should be painted the same colour as the windows ( we think we will restore the windows to the existing white) or made a feature, ie maybe dressed timber or another colour? Our landscape plan includes a pergola ( maybe dressed timber or painted white) leading up to the front porch and a few low retaining walls ( maybe rendered or sandstone?) and maybe the post colour can tie in somewhere? cheers kim...See MoreHelp with ideas for front facade
Comments (4)Paint the extruding garage a feature colour and the room above a different shade of that. For the rest of the house one colour. I like what the other person said with greys. Use grey as a feature and may be a toned down white for the rest. Posts could be black or dark grey and timber slats as you thought. If you have timber slats anywhere, I would probably leave some exposed brick somewhere, that is, if you are painting or rendering the house. I like 3 different elements in a house. eg. 3 different colours or 3 different products/textures....See MoreHow to improve this facade?
Comments (6)Thanks, Louise and Brandi. Louise, can't do much to the front of the house as we use it to manoeuvre the cars that come in and out of the garage. This is the downside of being in the rear of the property in a battle axe location. But I like the idea of creating "a sense of arrival" and perhaps, Brandi's suggestions, too, of larger pots. I thought my pots are large enough, but maybe I can make up with some more Yukka and agave plants, which I have a few of inside the small patio there. Brandi, I will get those copper house numbers as soon as I find suitable ones. Then perhaps we will have less pizzas delivered to my doorstep if they see the house number straightaway. Thank you....See MoreAdvice needed! How can the front facade be improved?
Comments (4)It is always a challenge working with a house that has been subject to lots of renovations over the past, some of which may not have been given enough design consideration. At the moment you have a bit of a mish-mash of colours and materials that are working against each other. Without knowing your budget I would consider two approaches to improve the look of your home cost-effectively: 1) Simplify the palette of materials and colours. At the moment it looks like you have face brickwork, render, weatherboard, fibro sheet with contrasting battens and a steel roof. By replacing the fibro sheet with a weatherboard to match the lower half, then painting all of the walls a consistant colour will make the house seem a bit more together, and less busy. With such a busy mix of materials you don't need any contrast or features standing out - so a monochomatic approach is best. 2) You have a huge amount of grey concrete which is great for cars, but isn't adding anything to the look of the house. Reduce the concrete area by at least 50%, especially if it is hard up against the house, and replace with mulched garden beds and planting that is appropriate for your location to soften the look.
