I’m getting a fibreglass pool built , and I need to choose the colour.

I like clear water not dark and not too blue, Im thinking of a white shimmer.

I agree. Some of the deep blue colours remind me of a toilet cleaner. I like white shimmer and also the grey, but as you said you prefer light, I think white shimmer is a good choice. It also won’t get too warm in mid summer. May I ask who is building your pool? Is it Barrier Reef?

Hi Chris,

We had Leisure Pools build our pool, and We decided on Diamond Sands.

we are loving the pool, and are very happy with the colour. We still have the temporary fencing up, and have decking and landscaping to do, but still are able to swim. We chose a cream marble paving for the pool surrounds, which I love as well.

I would hold off repainting until the front yard is done, the driveway and the lawn. It will look entirely different against the fresh green of a lawn! I personally like that colour, it's a nice change from all the greys around.. It's warm and inviting and I think it balances well with your garage door. And by the way terracotta and similar hues are coming back in fashion! .

Thank-you all so much for your advice so far, i've already gained so many ideas simply from reading your suggestions. oskuee: The house is a single story, and we have spoken about solar tubes before but weren't too sure how to incorporate lighting fixtures within the hallway as well. How did you go about it? Did you just install the 2 solar tubes with/without lighting fixtures? scottevie: the windows in the lounge will be remaining the same, we will eventually change the colour of the curtains but not straight away, either way the styling and shape will remain the same. Surprisingly there isn't a whole lot of natural light than can enter from that point of the house. There is a very large verandah at the front of the house which this window backs on to, plus the amount of trees from the front of our property and next door's front yard makes it difficult for natural light to seap through. I just had a quick look at some Dulux White Duck examples, i definitely favour something around this colour tone. telperien: i really like the ideas of mirror(s), this would be a great idea to distribute that natural light. I think we are going to try our best to steer clear of knocking down any walls for now unless we really need to! Embrace interiors: Thank-you so much for the recommendations in paint colour and for re-assuring us that we can paint below the dado rail in a darker colour. We've had a closer look and Stone Lion is definitely the tone we are trying to achieve. If we were to paint the bottom half in Stone Lion, what would you recommend the colour of the picture frames for the artwork be on the top half? We definitely would consider painting the top half in a warmer white as you have recommended. Once again, thank-you all for your suggestions and recommendations!!

I notice you have an aluminium screen door. Are the window frames aluminium as well? If so, you can re-paint them using a bonding substance called ESP. This is a link to Bunnings spray version but it also comes in a liquid you can wipe on and off: https://www.bunnings.com.au/flood-300g-esp-surface-prep-spray_p1560212 It's pretty easy once you get used to removing the screen and re-installing it (makes overpainting go away). It means that the paint won't chip off if someone knocks it which usually happens with aluminium and some other surfaces. Answering your questions, if you make the entrance lighter you may not need to make the walls either side lighter. I like dark - it is very dramatic and not as common. If you start with the entrance you can stand back and look at how it goes with the other walls. Also remember they don't all have to be the same. Variation in colour and texture adds interest, just make sure it doesn't look too busy and all the surfaces blend (not necessarily match). Your back wall is plain and straight, so regardless of the colour you end up choosing it will need to be augmented with something. You could try a large mirror on the blank space between windows. Something with a chunky frame in a contrasting colour and you will have a reflection of the greenery opposite. You could also try a reclaimed timber feature or something rusty or possibly a small timber pergola over the back door (similar colour to the window frames) that will give some depth. It's only paint, so try using patches with sample pots before you put too much effort into painting all the walls. Good luck.

You could consider custom joinery that actually looks freestanding - purposefully creating a gap from the edge of the fireplace surround to the wardrobe & on the wall side also. This would also mean that it really does not matter if the front of the cupboards do not align with the front of the fireplace. Adding a nicely detailed leg, and a feature handle (you can get some really unique Australian made ones these days) to give some visual interest to the otherwise minimal finishes. Keep it simple & classic so it ages with your child's taste and preferences. As an example, The Design Files recent article has an image of a cupboard in a lounge area, that could be adapted to two double door units on either side of the fireplace https://thedesignfiles.net/2019/10/interiors-house-p-cjh-studio/. Seems perfect for a child of any age, or even if you want to convert the room to a more 'grown up purpose' once they leave home ;-)

Hi Kate, it’s a mineral pool. Not sure what that is exactly. I know it has a salt water chlorinator. Basically a salt water pool with a bag of minerals thrown into it as well. It’s very nice and soft on your skin.

Hi Katherine. It looks very nice and refreshing. Unfortunately Leisure Pools near us have closed. We hope to go with Barrier Reef pools but still gathering quotes. thank you for your informatio. Enjoy your pool!

Hi Lisa, It took a very long time from signing the contract, to actually starting the dig. We signed in July, and pool handover was Christmas Eve, so just be aware, the salesperson may say it only takes 10 weeks. But once the dig started, it was very quick and seamless, no hidden extras, very happy with their communication, once they started the dig. It was radio silence, until my husband started ringing, and we got a dig date! But I believe all the companies are extremely busy. Good luck.

Hi Katherine, your pool looks very nice - I love the light blue colour. What kind of edge did you use for your coping (drop edge or bullnose, etc.?) Also, what were your considerations for using or not using a waterline tile? Thanks
