Flooring Design Dilemma

What floor to put with skirting boards.

The skirting boards in pic are a meranti type colour as are the doors and architraves. Hubby does NOT want to change the colour or even consider white. Besides carpet what type of flooring could we lay that would still tie in well?

Timber, stain it same colour.

I have a conventional concave cornice and I get plenty of cobwebs in the 10mm step out from the wall plaster (but not so much the step out from the ceiling plaster, or maybe it doesn't show so much there). If you are replacing the ceiling I would go with a shadowline rather than square-set which will show every wobble in your plaster or paint. I don't think it is feasible to install a shadowline into an existing ceiling (which will usually have a ragged edge under the existing cornice) but I could be wrong...

Being in the floor covering game for 37 years all I can say is the timber does not do well with a lot of moister and before no time the timber will expand to a point where the boards will fall off. Have you looked at the new ceramic tiles ghat look like timber ?

Thank you Luke Buckle, I just love this floor. Especially knowing what was there beforehand. This house is a double brick, split level, mid century monster with vinyl - asbestos floor tiles. It is more government building than home like but has huge potential. I am trying to create a little warmth and character with these floors. The kitchen is quite contemporary but it is an outback home and the feel I am going for is organic/relaxed loft/barn conversion.... I have found it very hard to pigeon hole my style!!

Levarne Sobotker....although the tiles are beautiful you are very brave having those very glossy tiles throughout your whole house...from experience of having glossy tiles - they show every mark and really need cleaning multiple times a week - and you can't just mop very glossy tiles because the water marks show when they dry on - so you have to do small areas at a time and dry as you go - it will take an age to clean them if you have them through a whole house. We have gloss tiles in a couple of bathrooms and I would never choose them again. They are also very slippery when wet.

@bigreader currently there are tiles. I was considering laying hybrid laminate planks on top but now am thinking whatever colour I choose will clash with colour of doors and skirting boards.

I’m just thinking maybe I am best to leave as it as the current tiles is all through living, dining and kitchen argh
