Before & After: A dated & dysfunctional kitchen
The client came to us after one of their friends had recommended us and needed to update their own 30-year-old Kitchen, with pretty much no functionality for the present requirements.
They wanted the Kitchen design to reflect the character of the house & have all the modern features. They also wanted us to do the flooring. The existing flooring were outdated tiles, which we decided to remove & repolish the existing hardwood floors to match the flooring in the rest of the house.
The kitchen benchtop was made at 650 mm deep then the normal 600mm. We decided to go with a Shaker style doors for the Kitchen with finger pulls and also incorporated Lemans unit for accessing & organising the blind corner more efficiently.
We also provided two pantries, one with a Pull-out Tandem unit for her edible items & a pantry with Scalloped shelves for her non-edible stuff & also for her microwave.
We went for a white satin finish for doors & Kalala Shan from YDL for the benchtop with a slight contrast glass splashback.

Comments (12)I grew up in the '70's and '80's and can tell you, the warm and cozy feel you mentioned made me feel overwhelmed and depressed! Lighting was always dull. Terribly difficult to notice any dirty cupboards as the colour was so dark! I love the new kitchen, and like others wonder if the rest of the house was done in a French Provincial style as the handles seem to intimate? Comments (6)Beautifically done ! My worry would be it is overcapitalising an ex-State House , but if you are going to live there 20 years , it won't really matter . The black towel rack/heater doesn't suit the door and cabinet IMO -- they would work if all 3 were black/charcoal ( but then the door would look mismatched presumably , against the rest of the house ) , or go lighter on the towel rail -- chrome would be the obvious choice . I hope the window is aluminium now , and while it wouldn't add much to the cost , I think 2 shower heads and a rainfall head ( if I read it correctly ) is overkill -- one or maybe 2 , but 3 yeah nah ! Comments (7)The 'after' shots are a bit budget -- did you save money bu using only half a black and white camera ? Not for me thanks -- its basically the same , painted white . It even looks like you re-used the cream panels around the top -- just weird IMO . No character or life , except the tap and lights , which admittedly are the highlights . Imagine the same benchtops and splashback , but with charcoal cabinets or even a reddish jarrah or similar cabinets ....See More
