Thanks Big Reader. Much appreciated - that is a good layout and we like it a lot. We also plan to add a couple of side tables and ottomans (though haven't drawn them in - sticking to basics). Am I correct this is what you mean (attached)? The one thing we are worried about this layout - is that the first view upon entering the house would be the back of long sofa/chaise? Wouldn't that be off putting and not visually pleasing (speculating here - could be wrong). The back of the sofa would also be facing the common family area (top of the plan). Hi. The window placement and fireplace, would suggest an arrangement of an L shape of seating, ( connected or unconnected) so that one lot of seating faces the fire, the other faces the other wall (carport direction) but it remains as one , it would give you options for looking out of the windows, at the fire in winter or TV. I am struggling with plans for a new house and trying to decide where to locate the TV on the wall with the fireplace,and it is so difficult as it disrupts symmetry. I think that the offset windows will allow that space to work fine with the TV on the other wall.

Hi Dr. Retro, Thanks for your reply . We are very happy for our home and can’t wait to move in. At the moment, it’s just an empty shell and we will buy furniture piece by piece to fill up the house slowly.x I have been learning a lot about home decor and furniture arrangement from the internet lately! Can you comment on my floor plan in the picture? Is this how you would put the corner lounge in the living room?

Without sizes of the furniture and the wall sizes it's almost impossible to suggest much . IF everything is to scale , you probably can't have a 3 seater couch , because even if you put it along the 'picture window' side , there doesn't look to be much room for a TV and cabinet , and definitely not speakers and turntable , on the opposite wall . Spin 90 degrees , and the TV would go between the entry and bedroom doors , but the fire is in the way of a couch position ( 2 armchairs would be okay by the looks ) ; likewise the couch along by the window is then at a strange angle to everything , but the stereo along the other wall may work , although wiring behind the fire mightn't be best .
