I have a long rectangular north facing house which I will be renovating. The living and dining spaces face north looking out to the large pool about 10-15 meters away (north). I want to have a large undercover alfresco area but would like winter sun to warm and brighten the home interior. I also want to maximise our views of the pool and the beautiful forest beyond the pool. What is the best design? The house has a pitched roof that runs along it's east/west axis so one pitch faces north, the other faces south. We have a lot of trees which shade the western sun later in the afternoon, especially in winter. The current renovation design changes the roof pitch in the living/dining area and brings the roof out over the alfresco, but I'm worried it won't allow the winter sun through to the house.
